Any interest in Nichia S rank LEDs?

I was contacted by a member to build an LED module, but he wants to use S ranks. Apparently, Nichia does offer them for general sale using credit card.

Pricing at 100 is $2.80 each and next price break is at 500, $2.20 each. SAS wants 40 of them and I think I am getting 20. So, we only need a few more to get the order. If a lot of people are interested, maybe we can reach that 500 qty discount.

Anyone want to get some? I would handle the distribution myself.
Actual postage costs plus insurance.
Insurance would be mandatory at the following rates:
$0.01 to $50.00 = $1.10
$50.01 to $100.00 = $2.00
$100.01 to $200.00 = $3.00

Please reply here in this post. Email is so easy for me to lose track of.

Whatis your current pricing for R-ranks?

We get it here for €1.90 (some $1.75) for 100.

I would definitely be interested in buying a couple...or maybe several...say, 10? If you're having trouble finding more buyers, I wouldn't mind buying another ten...

PeLu, I get my basic NSPW500BS from Paul, the www.whiteleds.net guy. Since I try to save up for 50 at a time, I get them for $1.50 plus $4 S&H. He's never let me down.

Roger, I will keep watching this topic to see about interest. Once I have a better idea of how many to get, I'll set a cutoff date for the offer. Stay tuned...

Gadget,

Are the Nichia S rank LED's that much greater than the basic NSPW500BS from Paul, the www.whiteleds.net guy?

I also usually buy mine from him only. It looks like he is going through a divorce as his webb site is down till Christmas.

Also,

I have gotte mixed up on the "angle".
One type has what looks like a small "egg yolk" as you look at the led from the end.

The other type (angle) has a "yolk" that fills the whole led as you look at it from the end. This is the one I like as it seems to put out more light, but I have forgotten what "angle" this is.

What angle are you getting?

Thanks

My idea is that what you call 'yolk' is the phosphor, which should be somewhat the same on all white Nichia LEDS, but different angled versions give you a different magnification on it (different optical lens), so it appears larger or smaller.

I think we all agree that we are speaking about 20° units unless stated different.

Yes, it is the magnification...it is also the way that I bought them. They were sold as different "degree". When I would get them mixed up, I could separate them by looking at the phosphor. The one that had more magnification put out quite a bit more of light for my purposes. I "forgot" what DEGREE it was....and I am just about out and ready to order some new ones.

Re Christian...Divorce

He may not have asked for the divorce. I believe in the tenets of Christianity it is supposed to be based on a relationship, vs, performance of a creed or "works".
Divorce is a MF so he has my sympathy.

Ken, the ones that have the largest "yolk" are the 20 degree angle. Phosphor pretty much fills up the whole view from an "end-on" perspective.

I got some wide angled ones once by mistake. 50 degree I think? It looked more like a yellow dot of half the diameter.

We'll be getting 20 degree S ranks.

I'm not really sure how much better they are than the R rank leds. Pretty much have to go by what the Arc-LE owners have to say. I haven't had any S ranks yet.

The member who wants them, SAS, opted for the S ranks. Color preference, I think.

Why did I figure you would know...

LOL!! That is exactly what I did. The little dot ones are not that great...I was afraid to re-order till I got it straightned out.

Count me in for 10

THanks

Well, Since Paul is taking a "leave of absence" I guess I'd better get some too. I'll take 20, unless we can get enough to get the $2.20 price level. Then I'd get fifty or a hundred.

Ken, the 50 degree ones are just as bright (total light). They're just focused wider for area lighting. I'm sure they have non-flashlight applications.

So far, it looks like we have right at 100 total. I've emailed SAS to see how long we should wait before ordering.

Once a "deadline" is chosen, I'll post details here about how to proceed. i.e. collecting addresses, payment options, etc...

Overseas members are welcome to participate also. Feel free to post limited address info and I'll figure shipping costs.

The problem will be how to pay (money transfer will cost too much). You may make an offer how many LEDs will fit into $50 including shipping. A dollar bill is easy to send.

I imagine that PayPal will work for you- They serve Austria and that is how I paid for the extra 3477 eval boards Gadget sent me... I think that it will cost you about $US1.50 extra to do it through them.and you can use a Visa or Mastercard.https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_international-register

By the way Gadget-- Are we going to do this soon? I will be out of white Nichias in about 2 -3 more lights.

I started a new job (temp) Monday. I'll have to get in touch with SAS and see if he's ready.

Then, I have to get in touch with Nichia, which is a pain since I am up at 5:00, and not home until 6:00 or so...

I can try and call them from work, but it is frowned upon.

Now, I'm on my way to the Saturday job... Yawn.....

Is the offer still open? If so, count me in for 20 plus airmail shipping to South Wales, UK. I have a PayPal account that I can use to make the payment with.

I`m keen to try an LED retrofit on my Streamlight Syclone (a light which normally has a very poor beam, see topic "Syclone" on the Incandescent forum), and I really like the colour/brightness of the LED in my Arc-AAA-LE- I`d love to see how bright 18 of them would be!!!

Sorry this is taking so long to coordinate. As I said, I started a new job and I'm still trying to manage my time. 50 hours there and 10-12 more at a different job on Saturday. Doesn't leave me much time to do this kind of thing.

I'm still trying.
wink.gif

If someone else wants to handle this, that'd be great. Otherwise, I'll be sure to let everyone know when I'm set to go.

Congrats on the new job. I hope they are utilizing at least some of your talent and skill.
