My current EDC is a Victorinox Soldier, which I really like.

However I'm contemplating a Trekker or a Forester to complement it, which have the exact same tools except the Forester has a corkscrew instead of a Phillips driver like the Trekker does.

I would have just gone for the Trekker with the Phillips driver, but I've read that the corkscrew has certain uses apart from opening wine, such as picking and loosening knots.

So, what are some creative uses for an SAK corkscrew or Phillips driver that you've come up with?

The corkscrew is handy as an o-ring pick, and it holds the little tiny screwdriver accessory that is essential for eyeglass wearers.

The side Phillips driver never really excited me, when I had one, it seemed every Phillips screw I needed to tighten was in a corner. The tip of the can opener can also be used with reasonable results on Phillips screws so IMO go with the corkscrew.

The Cybertool models have much more effective Philips bits.

I would rather have the corkscrew than the backspring driven phillips . The corkscrew is handy on it's own account , and as a recepticle for the truly excellent eyeglass driver . Aside from uncorking stuff , the corkscrew also makes a handy mini marlin spike for stubborn knots .

I find the in-line phillips driver to be much more effective than the backspring one. I tend to carry models that have both, such as the Explorer.

As stated above though, the bitdriver of the Cybertools models is excellent.

Yep, I agree my favorite SAK - EDC - has both -

When traveling I change to the Yeoman which adds scissors -

Unfortunately both those models have long been discontinued - the most easily obtainable with both corkscrew and in-line Phillips is the aforementioned Vic Explorer - a bit thicker but a long popular model.

The "whole 9-yards" SwissChamp also has both the tools -

as did the original Champion -

and recent, but short lived, Champion Plus (I think a WalMart special?)

... I guess this is a slight twist on the old -
"get both"? 😀

I'm surprised how little use my corkscrews get in the USA for wine (no public drinking allowed). My Phillips driver though:twothumbs I actually do not carry my SAK's but stash numerous Buck/Wengers around. Oddly, I prefer them to VIC's

When I go camping or trekking I take a SAK specially to have a corkscrew with me. So this use of the corkscrew is enough for me... 😗
