Hello, I apologize in advance if this question has been discussed before on CPF. This is my first post, therefore I haven't been able to use the search function yet.

I pulled 8 - Samsung ICR18650-28A SDI 971 cells from an old Asus Laptop Battery pack. I can't seem to find out if these cells are protected or not. I would like to know if these are safe to use in my 4Sevens Single bay Smart Charger. And also if they would be safe to use in my Solarforce L2T, with a Nailbender XM-L U2 2.8a setup.

Would I be ok to use these cells in my Charger and Solarforce or future builds or am I better off selling them on ebay to more experienced hands?

Anything from a battery pack is unprotected. The protection is in the pack, not in the individual batteries.
The ICR18650-28 is 2800 mAh batteries, but must be charged to 4.3 volt to get maximum capacity, my guess is that you will only get 2300mAh to 2500mAh at 4.2 volt.

Being that they are unprotected, would that make them dangerous if charging them in my 4Sevens charger?

I came across some specs that state that the "discharge termination voltage" of these cells is 2.75v, does that mean my drop-in must shut off at 2.75v or higher to prevent damage to the cell?

Not more than in any other LiIon charger.

Yes or you must manually shut it off.

At 2.75V it will be very, very dim (few lumens at most) though so you'll easily notice it - therefore no need to worry about it unless you have a habit of leaving your lights shining unattended.

Thanks for the help guys. If I decide to use them, I will definitely proceed with caution. It's a pleasure to finally be a part of CPF, as there seems to be many helpful, well informed, and very polite people here.
