Its been awhile since we have done anything in this neck of the woods.
January 17th is the date.
4pm to Whenever we run out of darkness
We have a new house and underwater flashlight testing facility (pool) for everyone to come and visit. The neighbors need to experience a few lights in the night sky. LOL
PM Weedle256 or myself for directions.
Hope to see some old friends and new ones as well.
The Chef has spoken and will be BBQing tri-tip and some pork roast.
If you'd like to contribute snacks and drinks that would be great.

Awesome, I haven't been around here long enough to attend any of the previous outings so I'm gonna be at this one come hell or high water. I have a paltry collection of lights, but I hope to see a whole lotta flashin' goin on...lights that is.

I'll PM you guys for directions.

I wish I still lived in Alameda, I would happily bring a loaf of bread, a jug of wine and a light or two.

If a get together ever coincides with one of my return visits (maybe schedule something around the Montery Historics;)) I would love to hang out with some fellow addicts.

Enjoy.

Planning on going!

Weylan

Are your kids around or are they going to bail because of the crazy flashlight people?

We should post a Flashlight Geocache nearby temporarily...

I've been asked to bring along my new telescope. It's a Celestron SkyScout Scope 90 with a SkyScout attached. If anyone's interested this device uses GPS, an electromagnetic compass, and some sort of elevation sensors that identify what you're looking at in the night sky. You can also ask it to locate objects too. It's mounted on a non-magnetic telescope tube so as not to interfere with the compass. I even got the speaker for it so it will play audio presentations. Now if only the weather will cooperate.

Wow... flashlights, geocache and astronomy. How did I not find this bunch of folks before. I want to add something more too... I'll bring along one of my Christmas gifts for taking beamshots if anyone is interested. I got a Sony Alpha350 DSLR with 14.2mp. I've never taken beamshots before so maybe someone can give me advice on snapping the photos that night.

Lowbat, is there a possibility of taking photos thru your telescope? I always thought that would be cool.

There are camera adapters that do just that, but I don't have any. You're welcome to try taking a few pics through the standard eyepiece if you like.

Let me check with the wifey first... but I will try and make it... although I don't have anything really interesting to bring for show ant tell

Would anyone object to me filming? I understand some folks are camera-shy, so most of my efforts will be filming the lights and beamshots. Being new to this forum I don't want to offend anyone. Shedevil if you do not want your home / yard filmed I COMPLETELY understand that as well and thus will only film flashlights... if no one objects of course:)

thanks!!

Bring wifey along, the more the merrier !!!!!!
Depends on where you plan on showing the filming you would like to do.

-LowBat...I'l see about getting one of those steadypix telescope/camera adapters.

-modamag...can't wait to see some of your "works of art" I've been hearing about.

-kramer5150...I've seen some of your reviews on youtube. Bought an Invicta dive watch because of it.

kramer5150, If you intend on filming anything really interesting, Hugh Hefner will come after you like a ton of bricks

This sounds interesting. I may be able to make this gathering. How many flashlights do we have to bring to get in? Or is it a lumen requirement? Bring either food, drink or batteries?? :grin2:

I will only host it on Youtube with my other vids, and post the video URL here for others to see. I was planning on keeping it flashlight and gear-related, set to music. Kind of like the Paul Kim / surefire video. Maybe some quick 5-second cameos from members if they wanted to wave and say hi. I have done similar videos for other tech-related forums...

But I totally respect anyone who rejects the idea, since essentially its a private get together... and I am new to the forum.

JimH.. LOL:crackup:

Eluman8.. I have 2 of those watches, one with a rubber dive strap and the second stock. Good lume, accurate timekeepers, cheap, easily replace-able daily beater.

:grin2:

Vicky/Kevin, can you guys put in the first post a list of all who is attending and who's bringing what for food so we don't duplicate. Thanks.

BTW: Katie is coming along w/o strings attachment. Andrew might come along to play with Kai. Hope you can make room.

elumen8: Bring along your tripod. You might need it.

Alan B: Bring along as many lights as you can. With the host permission we'll setup display table like we typically do.

I'll PM for directions, but at this point the chances of me being able to attend are slim. My wife's already got me committed for that night, but...

I over-heard an interesting argument on the phone last night between the wife and one of our intended guests. To be continued tonight, apparently. (I'm at least a little optimistic. :D).
