I decided to try tne 3V lithium AA sized batteries, and bought a Sanyo CRV3 from http://www.cheapbatteries.com

Took it apart to find (2) 3V lithiums. Just thought I'd let folks know as the Sanyos seem to be the most prevelant and cheapest on the 'net.

According to the Energizer web site (and my own suspicions), CRV3 batteries are two AA lithium cells in series.

stringj,

My experience has been that only US-made Energizers are 2 1.5V's in series. The Energizers made in Japan are paralleled 3V's as are Duracells and Radio Shacks.

Energizer is the only company that makes 1.5v lithiums and their tech. page says this is two cells in series if I recall correctly. I think they all could get more power out of this size if they could make it one cell of a prismatic design.

tvodrd,
I have just educated myself and you are correct. The Energizer brand utilizes Lithium-Iron Disulfide in their CRV3 batteries that produce approx. 1.5 volts per cell. Other manufacturers utilize Lithium/ Manganese Dioxide, which produce approx. 3.0 volts per cell. The Energizers, IMHO, are a rip-off as they are normally packaged two batteries per pack for over $17.00 per pack whereas 4 lithium AA cells go for approx. $10.00. Thanks for the info.

stringj,

Abt a year or so ago AB up in Canada "discovered" the 3V formfactor liths hiding in CRV3's. His were Energizer. I immediately went out and bought one and tore it apart. Mine was 2 X 1.5V in series. The Canadian Energizers were made in Japan. It took us a bit to straighten it all out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, as usual I'm VERY late to this thread. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif About a month ago I bought some Duracell CRV3 batteries in an ebay auction. I vaguely remember reading somewhere on CPF (I think) that Energizer holds a patent on the 1.5V lithium AA cells, so all the other CRV3 manufacturers use 3V cells. I can confirm that Duracell uses 3V cells, at least in the ones I've tried... and apparently Sanyo does as well. Energizer is the only one who DOESN'T use 3V cells in their CRV3's. All this has been explained in other places on CPF, but maybe by repeating it all in this one place it'll make things easier for folks. Hopefully! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
