Scored a lightly used Streamlight Litebox rechargeable spotlight. Couple questions-

Well, I can't find the 20-watt incandescent bulb but I did find these, which is what I'd rather have anyways.... one is a spot beam and the other is a flood beam. Even though the flood beam is quite a bit more expensive, I'm still leaning more towards that one either way because it's got a higher lumen but I guess I could probably be happy with the spot version if I knew just how pinpointed the beam is.

I say that because a decade ago when I had the old halogen version of the Maglite MagCharger flashlight, I had found a LED upgrade online for that flashlight that I believe was made by Terralux? I think? It wasn't cheap but it was bright and I guess because since it took away the ability to change between spot and flood, the focusing of the beam pattern was fixed at like, half way between spot and flood. Kinda liked how it was.

But anywho, the flood lamp kit says it will work with the LiteBox lantern models with black handle powered by a sealed lead acid battery. Not exactly sure why the spot LED kit doesn't have that disclaimer but both kits should work, shouldn't they?.

The 20w spot bulb is 45902, and the flood is 45910. It looks like some places still stock them.

I believe the LED upgrades all work with the modern-style Liteboxes (compared to the original style from the early '80s.) I don't know what the beam profiles are like. Any time something says "flood" I find it usually turns out be very floody. Like lights up a room without a specific hot spot.

I thought the bulbs were the same for both and that it was the lens that made the beam a spot or a flood? The spot lens just has a clear window and the flood lens had the honeycomb-like pattern that scattered the light…. I guess I could be wrong.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I watched a couple YouTube videos that I believe used the same LED spot upgrade as the one in my previous post so that's a good sign.

Yeah, I posted a new thread asking if anybody who has these newer-older flashlights who's upgraded them to LED might have a little info regarding that. I guess I could go on YouTube and look for a demo of each light that comes brand new as LED to see exactly what the differences are between the bulbs. I figure they should be relatively the same.

@ABTOMAT, I dunno… I think maybe I do like the flood pattern better. Doesn't seem to be as "floody" as I thought. What do you think? That spot bulb is a pretty focused without much light around that spotted area.

I think the 20w spot bulb is just a bare bulb you use in your existing reflector, and the flood bulb comes with the honeycomb reflector/lens. But I haven't used one of these upgrades so YMMV.

Well I decided on the spot LED upgrade and I'm sure glad I did. After talking to a rep at BrightGuy, he said the spot LED was hands down the best because he figured for a light like this, the flood bulb was way too flooded and after getting it installed, I'm happy. This a badarse light now.

Nifty. That turns it into a pretty usable light. That's the equivalent of a ~2020 LED model since they changed the LED Litebox recently.

Speaking of Liteboxes, here are a couple very different models for anyone following along with the thread. Left is an original early 1980s Litebox SL-40, right is a 2010s Litebox HID.

Don't listen to bluflaam777. He went to high school in the 40's!! Just kidding. I overpaid for my craigslist find of a lightbox: a brand new battery in the box, three replacement bulbs brand new in the box, but no charge cord. I saw some coast guard memorabilia laying around and mentioned I was in the coast guard in the 80's. He asked for $3 for the whole lot. I gave him a $5 bill because I didn't have change. Got home chucked the old battery after autozone told me it was no good. Put in the new one and blew the bulb a few weeks later. Popped in a new one and it's been going ever since. That was 4 years ago. I think I've charged it 6 times since the original purchase. I keep it in my closet and it has pretty good lighting for the space (low power bulbs). I use it about once a week which is more than the ones I had at work which were tested but never used once every 3 months. Those asses wouldn't let me take them when they decided they were obsolete. They wouldn't even add it to the city's auction when they got rid of them and are probably still corroding in the basement somewhere.

My model charges by plugging the streamlight cord directly into it. I still had a dozen laying around from my police days
