So what is the reason I have to go thru a security check from cloudsomething to access a web site that I have already provided my user name & password.

What info is being checked, collected & sold?

Unless you have a good answer this will be my last visit/post & I'd suggest anyone who has the same question, add a like or post

It's fine, they're not stealing your data and I don't think it's part of the same software level as the site itself. Cloudflare handles hosting and web traffic stuff; this is a protective measure. Once you click the "verify" button it records that a living person interacted with the page and remembers that action for future visits. I'd assume the servers that host CPF got DDOS attacked recently so they're limited traffic to connections who can confirm they're not a bot program.

Oh wow, that is some serious threat, LMAO.

Well, I never click on anything. The verify page comes up, with
a little circular spinner, and after about 5 seconds the site loads
as normal.

Doesn't seem like much of a verification process without any
human interaction.

I believe it's Cloudflare that provides security for this website. Since there's been a rash of hacked accounts posting links to solicit illicit material and sites, my guess is @Mister Ed activated this function to block out those bots.

It's similar to those verification methods where they ask you to click "how many traffic lights are there" among photo tiles to verify you are a human and not a spam bot.

Admittedly it's less annoying than dealing with those hacked accounts. I spent more time hitting the "Report" button in the last few weeks than I did the entire time I joined CPF nearly 2 decades ago! Finally figured out what it felt like to be a Moderator. Honestly, glad Greta never offered me that status. I think she knew I didn't want it.

But yeah, that other one with the "click on all the squares that contain _________" is frustrating and broken! Got so fed up with that system refusing to let me check out with the items in my cart from SMKW, that I "Xed" out the page and bought said items from a competitor of theirs' that didn't use that broken verification feature. Great way to lose customers. I used to buy a massive ton of $#&% from Smokey Mountain Knife Works several months back. Yeah, I don't do that anymore. Give you one guess why!

Having been online from the time of 3.1 &14.4k [if you know, you know] I'm more than just a little suspicious of a new window telling me they are doing a "security check of my connection". I clicked thru only after resetting my on board security to much higher levels. I find it odd that a Bot that could fill in/bypass a user name & password screen would find much trouble in click a box but then again I'm much more a hardware than software kinda guy. If possible an email blast warning members of the issue + extra step if needed again would be nice. Side note I hadn't had any issue or change on/in the board lately

I started seeing it recently at a website from a skin doctor I see annually.
Yet checking just now who's in the house I see 657 bots currently.

You don't need a username and password to access the site--millions of bots just pinging the server can bring it down. The Cloudflare protection is there to stop traffic like that. This isn't an unusual thing.

I have whole regions blocked at my router. Was flooded with all sorts of traffic from Russia and China.
Speculum finally updated headend equipment and it ceased.
