Selling older software?

I've got a previous version an application which has been uninstalled from my system when I upgraded to a newer version. Is it legal/allowable to sell the software?

Most the time, I've tended to throw it in the trash since the versions are usually quite old but I got to thinking there might be somebody who could use it and if so...

I would think it depends if you got the new version as an upgrade or not. Upgrades are usually offerred at reduced prices because you purchased the earlier version at full price. So in that case, reselling the old one would probably no be right. But if you purchased both the old and new vesions at their normal prices, there should be no problem with unistalling and reselling the older copy. If in doubt, read the software license.
