Hello

I've got a pack that I need to recharge, preferably without disconnecting the batteries from the battery holder.

But since they are coupled in series, it won't work by default to just connecting them to one charging channel. I was wondering if I could wire the charging channels in series aswell. Bringing up the total voltage to 8.4V cut-off.

The charger is this one:

Hi Seneca. Unlike NiCd/NiMH cells, Li-Ion cells cannot be charged in series without balancing circuitry and a suitable harness. Li-Ion cells do not have the abilty to "bleed off" excess charge, like nickel based cells. Your proposition would be potentially damaging to one of the cells, or worse, dangerous.

Li-Ion and nickel based cells are opposites when it comes to serial and parallel charging. Li-Ions can be charged safely in parallel, but not in series. NiCd and NiMH cells can be charged in series, but not in parallel.

The batteries have protection circuitry, thats _supposed_ to prevent overdischarge and overvoltage. But that's per individual battery, not the pack...Guess I'll have to remove the batteries each time then. Thanks for the input 🙂

and you can't wire the charging slots in series because they have (probably) common ground. Doing this you will shortcircuit one of them
