I spoke with SF customer service today and was told that the price of the A2 had dropped to $175 if you buy from SF directly.

I called Rachel and Kevin at 1SKS and they quickly dropped their online price to $150.

Maybe CPF did have an affect on SF. Maybe the "Boycott the A2" thread got their attention.

Hmmm.... Makes me wonder if SF broke the news of the higher price just to see how much flak they would get (from us and others) for it. Or if they broke the higher price to make the "actual" price seem more palletable. Good marketing strategy on their part if accurate. Interesting use of psychology.

I think the price reduction is a curious but welcome development. The price is now at a level where I expected it to be after seeing the A2, first hand. The economics and break even on this tool are certainly difficult to guess from the outside but ultimately, what the market will bear, can override an ideal selling price based on cost of production and anticipated sales levels.

As I recall, quite a few months back, in a thread here on CPF, we established a selling price of the A2 at $35 for SF but something tells me we weren't taken seriously or perhaps there were other considerations beyond our evaluation.

At any rate, with the price now where it is, I think the A2 joins the Klx series in SF offerings where there is real value in the quality and complexity of product for the price paid. I make this personal judgment based on comparison to other similar product in the marketplace. Of course I am hedging using the term similar as in the case of the A2, at any close inspection, there is absolutely nothing similar, currently, in the market place.

I don't know why SF dropped their price. Perhaps comments here were heard and evaluated. I suspect that the ultimate customer base for the A2 is not currently even aware of its existance nor will they know of the initial selling price or how it was reduced prior to the A2 actually getting to market.

Bottom line: Cool!
