I see Surefire is now offering green-yellow LEDs on the A2. Is there any particular reason for this LED color option (ie. red for night vision, blue for blood, etc.) or is it just for the hell of it?

Tom

Tom, the yellow-green LED is for use in cockpits. I don't have much detail on this. My understanding is that this type of yellow-green light is used by the other illuminations in cockpits.

Thanks Al! It is such a different color option that I figured there was some specific application for it.

I ordered one for the "cool" factor.....uhm...

You mean there was actually a purpose for the color? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW, I still have not gotten it yet, ordered direct from SF. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Al, if you should come across a spare set of yellow LEDs, by all means PM me..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Been reading up on the A2 and heard about this. So, is there a reason for the yellow-green, aside from the similarity in cockpit illumination? My understanding of the various LED colors and their benefits is like this:

White - general purpose, good color rendition
Red - preserve night vision
Green - 'brightest' color since our eyes are very sensitive to green light; works well with night vision equipment.
Blue - improves contrast, helps blood stand out so is good for EMTs and for hunters tracking wounded game.

So, what does yellow-green do?

I am just letting everyone know we have a small number of the new color Surefire A2 lights in stock. They are the Surefire A2-HA-YG (yellow/Green-ish LED color). Figured some people have been waiting for them so I thought I would post that we got some now.

According to the Surefire catalog, it is designed to work better with night vision equipment:

"Yellow-Green Aviator The dual-level A2 Aviator has a new LED color for 2005, a special blend of yellow and green that s designed for use with military night vision devices (NVDs). A little-known fact is that the U.S. Army, not the Air Force, has the most pilots. Army helicopter pilots rountinely fly night missions with NVDs and our new yellow-green Aviator will be ideal for such applications."
