SF \'E series\' vs. \'6P\' series

E1e,E2e VS. 6P,D2

I have MANY questions regarding the 'E series' versus the other 'personal lights'. But they're all 'YES' or 'NO' questions.

1. Does the 6P or D2 have a Pyrex lens? If not, can I buy a Pyrex lens separately and drop it in?

2. Is the finish on the 6P/D2 as scratch-resistant as the Hard-Anodized-type-III ?

3. Can you run the MN01,MN02,MN03,P60 for the full runtime without the batteries quitting due to thermal shutdown?

4. Can you run the MN01,MN02,MN03,P60 for the rull runtime without the lens melting? Maybe a Lexan will melt but a Pyrex won't ??

5. Do the bezels/bodies of all these lights get uncomfortably hot if you run them for a long time?

Does anyone have experience with an F04 beamshaper? Maybe it's better than a tipoff beamshaper cuz it's smaller and won't snag in your pocket, but the tipoff one looks mean! Is it black (as pictured on SF) or can you get it in HA color?

Does the F04 ever fall off? And what the heck are you supposed to do with it when you take it off? Lose it?

And the E series doesn't have a clickie tailcap (although I couldn't afford one anyway at $33 !!)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">They do not have a pyrex lense but you can upgrade the black versions with either a black M2 bezel that have pyrex. There is also a HA pyrex non-SIS bezel that can be bought to upgrade the C2/3-HA but the 6P does not exist in HA.

2. Is the finish on the 6P/D2 as scratch-resistant as the Hard-Anodized-type-III ?

No, the 6P/D2 have a black finish that wears with time.

3. Can you run the MN01,MN02,MN03,P60 for the full runtime without the batteries quitting due to thermal shutdown?

The MN01 is for the E1(e),
the MN92/03 are the two bulb options for the E2(e) and the P60/61 are the bulbs for the 6P/D and similar. All of these can be run in constant-on without getting a thermal shutdown (even though the G2(z) seem to get very hot).

4. Can you run the MN01,MN02,MN03,P60 for the rull runtime without the lens melting? Maybe a Lexan will melt but a Pyrex won't ??

I have only partially melted a lexan lense because it was covered (standing upside down on a table ) and didn't own a LOTC until then. The lexan lenses on the P/D series are user replaceable. Pyrex won't melt.
My E1 lexan lense has not melted, I doubt the E2 lenses melt, the P/D lexan lense can melt when using the P61 but mine has never melted using the P60.

5. Do the bezels/bodies of all these lights get uncomfortably hot if you run them for a long time?

E1 does get hot as do the 6P/D but you/I can still hold them w/o a problem. I don't have the E2 so someone else has to anser that.

Does anyone have experience with an F04 beamshaper? Maybe it's better than a tipoff beamshaper cuz it's smaller and won't snag in your pocket, but the tipoff one looks mean! Is it black (as pictured on SF) or can you get it in HA color?

Sorry, don't have any experience with the F04 or similar. But I think they are made of black plastic type material.

Re: SF \'E series\' vs. \'6P\' series

1) No, I am pretty sure that they don't.

2) No, the HA2 black is fairly tough, but after a year or so it will really show its age much more than the HA3. My E2HA has been carried almost everyday for 2 years and it looks much newer than my 6P and Z3 that very rarely get carried.

3) MN03 and P60 yes, have not run down a battery down in my E1 yet, and have not bought a MN02 so i don't know.

4) Same as 3)

5) Uncomfortable is somewhat realative. The 6P with the P60 gets pretty warm. The E2 with the MN03 gets about as warm as as anything that I would want to hold on to after about 25 minutes of runtime, and can be suprisingly hot if you set it down and let it run a while and then pick it back up.

No experience with the beamshapers. There have been several posts on here lately about how to modify/make a clickie tailcap for the E-Series.

No, but you can buy it.

These are brand new and have only been added to the C2-BK so far. There are no immediate plans to add it to other products or to catalogue it as an accessory. In fact, we are out of stock for another week or so.

No, The Black finish does wear after time.

Yes, You should be able to get the full runtime without thermal shutdown.

4. Can you run the MN01,MN02,MN03,P60 for the rull runtime without the lens melting? Maybe a Lexan will melt but a Pyrex won't ??

The Pyres won't melt. I can't speak for the Lexan, because I don't own any Lexan lights.

5. Do the bezels/bodies of all these lights get uncomfortably hot if you run them for a long time?

revolvergeek's statement is very accurate.

Re: SF \'E series\' vs. \'6P\' series

How does the E2's reach compare to the 6P/C2/D2/M2/etc?
E2E seems like my "perfect" light, except it could use a little more throw. Is there a significant difference?

How much are these pyrex bezels? Or could someone give me a parts number?

Re: SF \'E series\' vs. \'6P\' series

Hehe, sorry, I missed the parts number up there.

So to summarize, what they have is this:

Pyrex bezels
1. Standard non-SIS pyrex bezel in HA ($28.11)
2. Standard non-SIS pyrex bezel in black anodizing ($28.11)
3. SIS M2 bezel in HA ($?)

SIS Lexan bezels (I'm not sure if this is Lexan)
4. Z32 SIS no anti-roll hex ($16 at Sableco.net)

I've seen pics of the Z32, I didn't quite like the looks.

Any other bezel upgrades to the 6P that I'm missing?

Re: SF \'E series\' vs. \'6P\' series

I think the 6P has a bit more reach because the beam is tighter. I have both and I can't decide which I like better.

For EDC, I like the E2e. But with the Pyrex lens upgrade, the 6P with P61 120lm lamp is outstanding for size vs output ratio.

When I whip out my E2e people usually say "Thats a bright light". With the 6P P61/Pyrex, it's more like "#*&%*(#($) Holly $*()@&( LET ME SEE THAT!"

If I had to do it over again, I would buy the E2e before the 6P though.

Re: SF \'E series\' vs. \'6P\' series

Alpha,

you are correct, the Z32 has a lexan lense.
