Just after thoughts, still waiting on my R2 drop-in from DX for my Hugsby M2. But have been rading and thinking more about better quality and also seems it's not so easy to get some accessories to fit correctly with these Surefire knock-offs.

So I was thinking of working along the lines of a 6P but then noticed that the G2's are quite a bit cheaper. Whats your thoughts on these and would they be just as good as a 6P. Is the only difference the material they are both made of ? Again it's main pupose will be rifle-mounted with a red-filter for 30-50meter use (most is under 40meters).

Or the next question is, can you think of a better thrower/tight beam flashlight that has the same size body (needs to be for the rifle mount to fit). Again, still want a red filter, and would be great if I can use the rechargeable 123A 3.7v batteries I already have.

If you're going to use a drop-in led module, then I would go with the 6P. The G2 won't be able to function corectly as a heatsink.
If you're not using it except in short bursts, don't worry about it.

Also, I have a solarforce L2, and it is very close in every dimension to my 6P, dop-ins fit it quite well, and on ebay you could have gotten the R2 version for a litle more than the drop-in alone.

I'd get the g2 LED. It will be lighter. I'm not fammiliar with that drop in, but I'd trust the one from surefire to last longer...

Ran over my 6P with the police car. Cracked the lens, and put a war of scratches in my well taken care of finish. The malkoff inside is ok and working fine. I can't imagine the g2 would have faired as well.

i am not aware of a hugsby m2 but, were i going to mount a light from the selections you have given i would go with the g2.....
it has less waite than the 6p. and tough as nails. i have both and i preffer the g2. if you feel that you will need the light active for more than 10-15 minutes at a time mounted on a weapon then go for the 6p. franky, both lights will get hot. you would loose some battery life with the g2 but not enough to matter given your criteria.
actually, now that i think of it, you need 1 g2 and 1 6p. then another.... and another....

I started with a G2. Added a G&P clicky and a LED dropin from Lighthound. Then I bought a 6P body and head off the forums here, and built up a 6P with the clicky and LED dropin, and rebuilt my G2 incan.

So, I gradually ended up with a custom 6P LED and a G2 incan.

The Hugsby M2 is a SF6P knock-off. Quite a good unit and the SF drop-in LA's fit perfect. It's more a matter of the clicky switch & pressure switches not fitting well.

Slighty different thread on the body so most the aftermarket/genuine SF accessories don't screw on.

Heat shouldn't be an issue, the light will only be on for 1-10 sec's normally at most hench the use of pressure switch.

I guess both would be fine for this use, just the G2 is quite abit cheaper. In-fact if I had known about the G2 before buying the Hugsby I would have bought it as it's the same price lol.

I don't think there would be enough difference in weight to really matter. Maybe I'll just look for a SH 6P or buy the bits in the forums. I would like to find a way of changing/modding the LED to just a red one but can't seem to find any that are as powerful as the normal whites.

Since LED's won't work that well with a red filter at that range you needn't worry about heat buildup, a standard G2 or 6p will both work. The G2L is a waste of money for your use and quite frankly I'm feeling a bit silly for spending an extra 30 bucks for one after seeing the beam. The G2 will work fine with a standard power incandescent lamp, the P61 is okay for short bursts but you needn't use it since it's not a thrower, it just floods. If you entertain any thoughts about using a high-power red or white led in the future though I would spring for the 6p.

Edit: On the red power LED. The cree XRC may not produce as many overall lumens as a white one, but that output is 100% red spectrum, 52+ lumens of pure red light is alot of red light, and though I've not seen it in person I would imagine is way more than a 65 lumen incan+ filter will put out.

Get the 6P. No worries with drop-ins. Also, you rarely, if ever, see a G2 discounted but I see 6P's discounted all of the time bringing the 6P price within 7 bucks of the G2 and that's not even considering I've seen the $42 price on the 6P SHIPPED. That could make them EQUAL!!

Go with the 6P.

Sounds like a red LED is not going to be much good. For the distance and intended use I need a 160lumen incan with the red filter.

ATM I was going to try using a R2 with the red filter. I've got a 120 lumen incan with the SF red filter ATM and it still falls short of my needs

If I could get a 6P shipped to me at that price it would have been a done deal lol. Where I am I can get a G2 for $56 and a 6P is about $90ish or more. I'm in no hurry though as I have a work-around ATM. But still want to get sorted with a better solution at some point. Seems it's pretty obvious, it's hard to get around the 6P.

Just wish the 6P was a better thrower. lol Hard to have your cake and eat it too I guess.

I recently bought a brand new factory sealed 6P from eBay for $44 delivered. Well worth every penny. And they are still selling, btw. I also wanted to mention that I have a SolarForce L2 that is great quality and all parts are very interchangeable with the SureFire.

Oh, sorry, Mate! Didn't see you were "down under." LOL!

Well watch for the next time I'm selling something. I can grab you one and package it in the bundle. I've already shipped three things sold on this board overseas.

I'm currently selling a nice, high end computer mouse and my Mag85 is always up for grabs.
