Ok so first let me start by saying I have no experience with HID flashlights or any flashlights really in general. The only fancy flashlight I have is a Arc-LS on my key ring (and its beat to hell...but still works). In any case, I did do some poking around on these forums and decided on a Shark I 24W/10W since it seemed like a good all rounder (small two mode brightness, etc). First let me so holy %$@* this thing is bright. Umm yea you pretty much can't really use this thing as a flashlight anywhere in the public. I'm not joking you can turn off your head lights and use this thing to guide your car (I tried). BUT the LED back end is definitely cool and for pretty much any normal flashlight needs (finding your keys, walking around outside in the dark, etc) this will work. Anyway some PROS and CONS of this light as I see them:

PROS:
-lightweight
-dual mode brightness (albeit both too bright to use in public places)
-Cool LED light in back, can be used for 40 hours, and shows battery level etc.
-very lightweight

CONS:
-stupid as hell, screw in charger (to charge you screw the charger in the back like a light bulb)
-bulky, doesn't fit to well in your hand
-kinda of ugly, although who cares
-although LEDs light up right away, HID takes around 15 seconds to get to full brightness.
-You turn on the HID light by screwing on the battery, the LED's are also operated by screwing on the tailcap, the only pushbutton switch is to toggle between 10 and 24W brightness.

I know it sounds like I'm being down on this light, but I actually like it. It does have alot of cons, but the LED's mean it can be used as a normal flashlight, and when I go camping I figure I'll have a use for the HID part.

I think I read that HID's are kinda of fragile, as in if you drop them the bulb can break. But to be honest I dont know. I dropped this one once already and it survived ok. But to be honest don't know. If it breaks ill let you know.

Great:)
I dont expect LED Shock resistance, but would be nice if it could withstand a beating or two :)

HID take much more shock then incans in general.
We used HIDs in iraq on bradleys and tanks.

Many bike lights are HID, I have never even heard of 1 blowing out from shock.
My brothers HID bike light has 1000s of miles on it ( off road) and its a few years old.

How is the 10W vs 24W beam in brightness and color? How long does it take to go from 10W to 24W once on? Going from 24W to 10W would be quick, I'd think.

It switches instantly, color is the same, look at my second video you can see and hear me switching from 10 to 24 watts.

I was looking at that against the AE Xenide 20W HID. Thanks for the MR.

Enjoy!
