Hi folks, anyone else work shifts here? I work a 5 week rotating pattern made up of early shifts (0700 - 1600 or 1700), back shifts (1400 - 0000) and night shifts (2300 - 0700). I've done them for nearly 4 years now and I honestly dont think I could go back to a 9-5 pattern - I love shifts! It's great having days off in the week, being able to go & do things when others can't. Of course, there are down sides - your social life needs to be very carefully planned.
Anyone else?

Used to work shifts for years, usually 3 shifts (700-1500,1500-2300,2300-0700), and really liked the night shifts (hated morning shifts...) But I did sleep a LOT (in a totally darkened room). Seems the average person needs 2 hours/day extra sleep when working shifts. Never could quite understand why you have to change shifts every week.
I'd like to work nights, but it is probably healthier to stick to a normal day/night rythm.

I've worked shifts for 20 years. I love the swing shift (1500-2300 or 1600-2400)

For the last several years I've worked a 4/3 schedule with 12 hour shifts. For example I'm currently working 0900-2100 Sun/Mon/Tue that alternates back and forth with 0900-2100 Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed.

So one week I'll work three days and have four days off, next week it's work four and three off. Nice, every week you have either a three day or four day weekend.

Yeah,

I work shifts, combined with regular work weeks. Fortunately I don't have to work the graveyard shift very often, because there are two eccentrics who actually PREFER that shift. Fine with me! In some ways I like the 16:00 to 24:00 shift, but in others I don't, particularly as I don't see much of my wife when I work that shift. When I do shift work it is 10 days (8 hours) straight. Sometimes that translates into a four day weekend, sometimes into a three day weekend. All in all, I think I'd prefer to work a regular M-F 8-4:30 kind of week every week. Easier to plan things that way.

I have worked a rotating shift schedule for the last 13 years. Mostly the same as described by others above. I dont mind the mids, but it is a b!tch to change over from mids to days/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif.
I finally had enough and will soon be working straight day shift. However, I am currently working 13hrs/night straight thru./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif
My last day off was Sept 12, and I wont see another break untill Oct 18th. I wont complain about my pay check... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif

I worked 24 hour shifts as a firefighter. We worked 10 days per month. My wife is a 911 dispatcher and works 16:00 to 04:00, she calls this a late swing shift. She loves this shift and is upset it is going to change to 13:00-01:00. I HATE working at night. I'm early to bed early to rise. Too bad I'm not healthy, wealthy. or wise.

I work night shift, 2230-0900, with week days off. I have three-day weekends every week.

Working nights with my weekend during the week makes it hard to get in sync with people with normal work hours. I end up going without sleep to do stuff with others on the weekend. Good thing I get to nap at work.

My other choice is to work rotating days and afternoons. Afternoons are my preference but I hate day shift. I don't like getting up in the morning and days is when all the bosses are around. This choice is also eight-hour days; I wouldn't want to go back to two-day weekends.

I also work in a five week rotation shift. 0600-1400/1400-2200/2200-0600. 33.8 hours a week, including the weekends. Have been doing this for 2 years and like it a lot. Can go to gym or stores during the week while most people are at work.

1500-2330 hrs. rotating days off. Plus overtime which can vary month to month.

I work the best shift schedule I ever had.
0630-1430, 1430-2230, 2230-0630.
The way it's arranged I get 2 weekends off a month. I work 12 hour shift the other weekends. 0630-1830 etc.
It's a 28 day rotation. That means I can plan long range.
28 days from today I work the same shift.
It's great.
I'm at work now. 0630-1830.

I do enjoy shift work tho I'm a zombie on midnights. I don't know anyone who isn't, when they work that shift.

As we all know you can go to the y, shop, etc without the tourist traffic.
I'm single so that makes it easier on the home/social scene.

Actually when I was in the Army we worked a 4 shift rotation, 8/7. When we had enouth people we worked a 5 shift rotation, 8/7 with a training week (0800-1600)as the 5th week.

When I left the comercial nuclear power plant we were working 4/10s with Friday off followed by 4/10s and a 8hr Friday. Crew was split in two groups so onlt half had Friday off at one time. This was in place of a straight 5/8 hour week.
