Hi

Im looking for a light to replace my old Lighforce Halogen spotlight that we hooked up to a small Lead-acid battery for shooting foxes and such.
Polarion's are the go if i had lots of money, but i don't, so can anyone suggest something that has a good throw, decent warm-up time (close to 0) and won't cost me more than $500 AUD.
Remote battery is fine too

Cheers

How about converting your current LF to a 55w HID with a conversion kit

its not my light, so mods aren't really an option, but an HID in that reflector would be awesome.
i was thinking a TK70 or SR90, though the SR90 seems to have a slightly tighter hotspot. but both are hefty.
would an aspheric torch with a widish beam be any good (wider than a DEFT) do you think?
oh, and shooting distance will be around 150-200m, but wanna be able to see them coming from over 500m

thanks to everyone for their suggestions. always better to ask the pros i reckon

200m regular usage extending to 0.5km, forget about the SR90 or TK70. I'd prefer a slightly wider beam like TK70, don't have to aim too carefully.

This is really a tricky question. There are no high powered LEDs. Seems like the only option is those huge multi-XMLs, something like a 6 to 12 XM-L TK70 type. Maelstrom X18.
HID takes quite a while to warm up, you won't see them coming unless you leave it on (tough on the batteries, heavy etc).

How about twisting the rules a little, Dereelight DBS V3 aspheric with a 1.5amps R2 pill and a gen 0 NVG? You'd need optical aids for 200-500m, but i think would be over 500 bucks.

ok, so migfht have had some distances confused.
would like to see 'eyes' (very reflective and easy to see for people who don't know) out to 800m, shooting range will be between 80 and 160m normally, possibly out to 250.
so good throw is still needed for spotting eyes, but i don't need to be able to make out any shapes.
good light to 160m, decent to 200m and waning out to 250m.
i think this will be possible now.

i think LED is the way to go unless anyone knows a good value (reliability, throw, weight) for below $500

My personal suggestion would be to check out the XLR 250 from Elusive Wildlife Technologies. It is a designated hunting light that comes in a variety of colors and is super durable. Cost is around $150 USD with shipping. Red and green light tends to spook game less. You will be able to identify your target out to roughly 130 meters and will be able to shine eyes out to 180 meters. Another good option is the Tiablo A9 with the aspheric lens. That setup will provide you with the ability to shine eyes out to 450 meters and be able to identify your target at roughly 270 meters. The only drawback is that the tiablo a9 only comes in white light, which is far more likely to spook game. Cost for the Tiablo with the lens is around $130 USD.
