Right you bright bunch get your heads around this one.I want to buy a small batch of Led lights suitable as a freebie.

Criteria is:-

To use for looking at brake pad wear.
Cheap and needs to be reliable.
Enough lumens to do the job.
Simple on/off or twisty makes no difference.
I do not want to buy from DX or similar.
Price really matters.
Happy to buy from the US but not from HK on this one,as I have lights coming from there for another promo I am planning.

I have a couple of ideas but just add your own thoughts please.

What about the 1 dollar ebay lights that get discussed here pretty frequently? I have 1 and it is very nice for the price, I plan to buy more. Golden Gadgets, which I believe is located here in the us sells a similar light for 3.99(which I am sure also comes from china), but honestly there is no reason to pay the difference.

You could always use those keychain lights from batteryjunction as a super cheap option. Reliable and a US seller. This may be your best bet.

Dorcydirect has a few little fairly cheap lights and there is a coupon code floating around here for 20% off and free shipping. There is also the $3 rayovac AAA alien keychain light at Wal-mart. The beam seriously looks like an alien so that may or may not be something you want.

What are you looking to spend? I'm thinking Fenix E01 would be a nice, rugged choice for getting mucky and banged about in a garage. The 99c ebay lights are certainly cheap and bright enough, but you specify they need to be reliable.

The EO1 is not any deals for me.Best I have come up with so far from a trade source is a double AAA cell penlight at £2.39 each, 5mm led which will provide enough light for the job.

I agree - I've bought 4 of these and all are perfectly usable. Certainly better than a 5mm LED. Depending on the exchange rate it works out somewhere between 99p and £1.10 - give or take.

It comes with a lanyard and keyring. I get my my AAs at 12 for £2 at B&Q.

So for about £15 you've got a dozen nice little promo gifts, batteries included.

If one happens to go titsup then you've still got a useful lanyard, a AA battery and a novelty metal tube to keep your toothpicks dry.

Hi Bill

This is from another thread ... I sent for four cheap AA torches.

Well , the four AA torches have arrived ... Cleaned the threads and lubed the very thin O-Rings and painted a bit of 'Servisol Super 10' on the spring and threads etc ... They all work great ... Four AA torches including postage for $5-73 (£3-90) is amazingly cheap ... This is the first torch where the rechargeable battery will be far more expensive than the torch itself.

The torch weighs 22.9 grams empty and is 94mm long and 19mm wide ... The metalwork is obviously thin and the end caps are not too easy to screw on , but nevertheless they are cheap and they do work ... The black finish is better than I expected for the money ... The Grandchildren will love them , though I will keep two for myself , if only to remind me that basic torches don't have to be expensive.

They really are a one pound (including delivery) torch ... Stick a bulk-buy AA battery in it and you have a really cheap give-away ... The torches that I got have no engraving or printing on them , so you could even have them engraved as a job-lot at a fairly sensible price ... The setting up of the engraving machine would only need to be done once , so it shouldn't be expensive to engrave a job lot.

Good Luck with your search

George
