I have heard that you can run the Surge on either all 8 batteries, or on just 4 batteries. Is that an option on the switch?

Also, does that mean that when using only 4 batteries it isn't as bright, or it is as bright, but obviously not as long of runtime?

Thanks!

It runs two sets of 4 batteries in parellel. So you should have a reduced runtime, rather than reduced brightness...

Due to internal resistance in the batteries, it will run a little dimmer on 4 AA's.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Ah, the elusive 4 (or 8) AA battery holder that will fit in a Mag. The Quest is before us.

Well, you can buy a 4 batt holder from Radio Shack, and just wire 2 of them up... Don't know if they'll fit in a M$g though (without destroying the sides, of course)... Or you can just DIY with foil and duct tape...

4 AAs are pretty snug inside a D M$g, but I can envision something like a small liner straight through the middle crack of the batteries that has tacks in the insides to hold the batteries in place; then, you can line wires through it...

As to what JohnK said, and refering back to the 4 vs. 8 battery question, so how do you switch from 4 to 8 (and vice versa) batteries if the switch has only two positions (that being 'on' and 'off')? Do you have to physically remove 4 of the batteries?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yes you have to remove the batteries.

The Surge is a remarkably SIMPLE light (except for the neat 8 battery holder). It is simply an open end plastic tube, with a simple lever switch on the outside. The battery assembly with the bulb and circuit board works perfectly outside the light body; you just push up on the small switch on the circuit board and it fires up.

I wonder where you could get the plastic battery assembly to use in mods ?

A rubber band around 4 batts will keep the space inbetween minimised.
