200 Lumens/60 minute runtime,non-rechargeable, non-turbohead "normal diameter"
bezel (1 1/4").

Does such a Surefire exist, or is there perhaps a discontinued or used model available with these features?

If not, how close could I come to these parameters?

No such animal, nothing even close from surefire.

Best you could do is a 9P/D3/Z3/C3 with a 105 lumen bulb for 60 minutes or a M3 with a 125 lumen bulb for 60 minutes.

After that they all go to 20 minute runtimes or large turboheads or both. I personally have never liked the 20 minute runtimes....for LEO or Military when someone else is footing the battery bill it's probably fine. Or when you don't mind carrying 6 extra batteries on you with your flashlight. But to go through $4-12 (lord help you if you buy your batteries in a store or that would be $10-30+) in batteries every 20 minutes is too rich for me. The light is amazing though that's for sure.

The closest one, and it's a rechargeable would be a 9AN with 140 lumens, and 40 minutes of runtime with the stock battery but packs could be built cheaply enough to get a hour out of it.

It could be done though, a 200 lumen p91 bulb is about 15 watts. A person could take a MR11 12 volt 15 watt bulb, in a package that would be close to the size you'd like. A mr11 would fit in a 1.25 housing easy, and using say 4 123's you could run them for oh with a fudge factor for high drain say 70 minutes. Be like a M4 with a M3 head and the brighter bulb but a hour+ of runtime. In fact that would be just about perfect a M4 with a 200 lumen 12 volt bulb and a M3 sized head.

Niterider makes bike lights from MR11's that are 15 watts and run for 90 minutes with a battery pack bearly bigger than a deck of cards that wouldn't be that hard to put in a reasonable sized handle and run. Probably be pretty easy to convert a 2D maglite into one, but that's probably out of your size range.

ToddM,

Thanks for that thoughtful and comprehensive answer. I appreciate it.

By the way, you have relatively few posts for someone of your "seniority" and obvious knowledge. Too bad, you clearly know your stuff and might be a good person to hear from more often.

The M4 is the first Surefire that can do 200+ lumens for 60 min. But it is a Turbohead flashlight.

I think you would be just as happy with the M3 @ 125 lumens for 60min though. You can always put the 225 lumen LA in. It makes it a little brighter & the hotspot larger.

The M6 MN20 produces 250Lu for 60 minutes.
It's larger then you require though right?

If it becomes reality, the M3-HID I played with at SS2002 will produce serious light output from a tiny package. Output and runtime were being developed. It was amazingly though.

Brightnorm,

Thanks for the kind words. Sadly I'm as addicted to mountain biking and knives and archery and shooting as I am to flashlights. So each hobby seems to go in streaks at times.

I certainly do like the HID ideas for flashlights. I've used a couple of them that bike light companies are making now and they really are amazing. 10 watt draw putting out 35 watts of light. They seem durable enough and aside cost of replacement and their tendancy to have a blue tint that increases over their life they are simply amazing. I rode a nite ride with a friends cateye that was rated to 80 watt halogen equivalent and it was almost too much light if you were in the trees, too much light backwash gave ya tunnel vison.

Sean,

You're right about the M3. I have a 9P with P90 and P91 and the light is impressive, but I was hoping for a 4x123 body plus "normal" bezel and appropriate lamp, which I now realize doesn't exist

Al,

Any idea how far along SF is on that M3 HID, and whether it will actually become a reality? The thought of significant power and runtime in a small package is a Flashaholic's dream

Todd,

Do all those bike HID's have separate batteries and are there any that don't?
(I can how your Flashaholism works as a supplement your other activities.)

Many thanks to all
