An interesting development.

I am waiting for several 2x21700 bodies. I could upgrade all of my Hound Dogs. Especially the Super. A 2x21700 would have the same capacity as the present 3x18650 configuration. It's the highest drain light I have.
Also the brightest.

I as well thought the same thing.... current design doesn't look like it would allow for modification in such a matter even with Martin D White science. SUPER happy with the 1x21700 body at the end of the day, but it would be WILD to have a 2 cell version!

Gone fishing for a couple of months and the 1x21700 drops. Two on the way, need to see what is going on with this one :)

I am kind of happy with the M61T running on the latest-greatest 18650. In a pinch, I can run 2x123.

It's the bigger monsters I am worried about. Hound Dogs. Although, the 1x21700 might be a great fit for the "18650" Hound Dog.

What would you call it then? 21700 Hound Dog?

You can run 2x123 in the 21700. Concerned about battery rattle? Loop a #114 ring around each 123 = Zero rattle. 2x18350? No problem. Reasons not to go 21700: If you insist on the tricap, prefer the style of the 18650 shrouded tailcap, smaller hands, limited access to 21700, or support for accessories such as the SwitchBack and/or light mounts. Otherwise, from what I have seen, the 21700 is the way to go for the MD2 format.

So my 21700 body and battery came today. LOVE the pineapple finish as opposed to the knurling. I couldn't be happier--I already had the neutral Hound Dog head (was not being used) and LOVE the diameter of the 21700 body--fits my hand WAY better than an 18650 body (which I have quite a few). This thing makes me want to get a Wildcat 18650 and another 21700 body/battery...

Looks very sharp. I think you sold me on this. 21mm and the Hound Dog are a great match.

The problem is not just the diameter but also the length. 2x123 are not as long as 1x21700. They don't add up length wise, nor diameter wise. You need a special adapter that looks like 21700 and you can install 123 cells in it.

In actuality I do not remember the last time I ran 123 cells in any Malkoff light. It think last time was years ago. Therefore 123 compatibility is a moot point. I am going to slowly move everything to the 21mm cell.

You can run 2x123 in the 21700. I would not have posted that comment had I not tried across both tubes ;) A sleeve is not mandatory in a pinch. I am sure someone else with a 21700 will chime in...

just Tried 2X123 in my 21700 tube. She's a no go. Was hoping i could run them as a backup if ever needed but way to short😞

Interesting. Both of my tubes fire up M61/M61N/M91T without much issue: The lengthwise fit was tighter than I had expected. No o-rings involved. Production variance? Battery Station/Duracell/Energizer CR13A is what I have tried...

That'll run an M91 nicely. :D

It won't, all M91 need at least 5V to run. The range is 5-12V for M91 and M91T.

Now a 2x21700 body.. which gene said will likely be available.
Now that's a game changer and I will upgrade my M91T, definitely Hound Dogs including the Super.

Not true, the M91 has a new driver and it will run on an 18650 at reduced output. Specs have not been updated on the website.

A M91 will run on a 3 volt primary now. Lol and for like 5-6 hours or so. Reduced output of course.

I see. Well, I have an M91T which has not been updated. Thus I still need, and want the 2-cell body, which actually works out nicely.

How old is it? the update was 3-4 years ago.

As I was badgering Gene to make a 21700 body some years ago I feel duty bound get myself one!

So looking on his site the M61HOT seems to have pretty much the same output now as the M91T, so I assume that it's been upgraded recently.

This could be my new recommendation for 24/7 Duty Belt carry, well there is only one way to find out!

I still need to work on Gene about an anti-roll head though!

Looking at Malkoff's M91T page:

This design utilizes a tightly focused TIR optic with ample spill. The beam is 19,000 Lux at one meter. It is an outstanding medium to long range spotter. It will illuminate objects out to 900+ feet and will blind opponents within a 150 foot radius. The LED is a Cree XP-L HI.

The input voltage is 5.5 - 12 volts. The head can operate from 3-4 CR123 primary cells or 2-3 Li-ion rechargeable cells. The current draw is approximately 1250ma at 9 volts. The full output runtime is approximately 30-45 minutes on three CR123 primary batteries with a nice long taper as the voltage drops. This dropin is protected against reverse polarity.
