So you think your Aurora is waterproof? No way!!!

I was curious as to whether the Aurora would float, so I dunked it in the sink in 6" of water for about 1 minute (it doesn't float). When I opened it, it had several drops of water inside.

So I naturally repeated the test. I made sure the case was closed properly, and I dunked it in 6" of water again for about 20 minutes. I then very carefully toweled off the outside of the light - even taking a paper towel and removing the water from the outside of the seam. Same result!!! Many drops of water inside!!!

WHATS UP WITH THIS??? Is it just mine? Can any of you confirm this?

Just tried mine and it stayed dry ... however, it's brand new and hadn't been opened yet.

Yes, incredible as it seems, this flashaholic didn't rip this one open as soon as I got it to see what was inside. My last one had a bad LED and it took six weeks for PT to replace it. Now that it's been opened to check for leaks, I guess I should repeat the test.

Will try it again and repost.

I have used mine in wet conditions (Kayaking)and have had no leaks as yet. I have not tested specifically for it though. In either way, it happens. I find mine hard to close at times, so I could see the possibility.

I have a possible theory..

If the temperature of the water was cooler than the Aurora, submersing it may drop the temperature of the Aurora causing a bit of "suction" that could pull in a small amount of water.

I didn't expect this light to be entirely water proof, but I think it would be more than up to the task for use in rainy weather. And no, I haven't dunked mine yet.

Not the most rigorous of tests, to say the least. Opened it, closed it, submerged it for an hour ... depth a whopping 1 foot.

Rescued it, dried the exterior thoroughly (including inside the seam). Opened it up.

Insides are bone dry.

Maybe the seal weakens with age? For now, I'll not hesitate to use it in the rain. I won't be using it as a dive light, anyway, so it needn't be more waterproof for me.

Lux Luthor - if you can part with yours for the six weeks PT will likely take, you might want to call them and see about returning yours under warranty.

Mine also leaked slightly when submerged. I put a light coat of Trident silicone grease on the sealing surfaces, which seemed to solve the problem. In my experience, gaskets/o-rings must have a fair amount of force on them to seal effectively without grease. The grease helps a lot - it doesn't take much.
