Haven't done Cut-em-down mods for a while, my hand are getting itchy.

Got a hold of the l2X but didn't like the look as is, the flat band between tail cap & body kind of broke the flow. I think it'll look better without the band.

So I cut it short to run single 18350, remove the flat section, to make it look like a little hand grenade 🙂

Re: Solarforce L1X cut-em-down

Thanks!

I usually don't work on p60 format, but now I have the mini grenade, I need some drop ins.

Was thinking of grinding a Surefire TIR head down to a p60 shape to stick it in there for throw
wondering if there enough wall sickness to allow the grind down without grind it through the guts?

Does anyone know TIR head has the smallest diameter?

I bet your thread title has Homeland Security excited. 😱

Title changed, I certainly don't want to attract attention from Homeland Security 😱

Nice work. I think I'll do this to my L2X. How did you join the tailcap to the body? What material did you use for the seam?

Re: Solarforce L1X cut-em-down

Why not get an XML TIR off Cutter, along with an XML, and get one of the 2.8 amp drivers and p60 shells off illuminationsupply and build a module?

Hope the photo could explain.

The tail piece is cut short right after the flat section, the front end of of the thread is bored away a bit. The body section was cut short, then one end is bored out & the other end grind down a bit to go inside the other, re-join them together, press fit tight & a little glue along the seams to make it perminant.

The tail cap still screw on & off, functions like usual. When the tail cap screw on, it closes the gap all the way & match up the pattern so that it looks like one piece.

Do you have a link to XML TIR? I am not aware of it. I already made a 8x7135 3-mode XML-T6 drop in, that's what's running in there right now. very bright for sure. But XML is floody regardless if reflector or lens, I'd like to make another drop-in that's super throwy with a perfect beam like my E2DL.

If you decide to sell this one, let me know...Great job as always.

Not going to happen in a drop-in format unless those XML TIRs are <10 degrees. Even then, who knows what you'll end up with... I would be looking at making a C/G/P/Z/M series compatible aspheric head that takes standard P60 pills.. and has adjustable focus so you can get the focal point right...

Re: Solarforce L1X cut-em-down

I ended up making all bunch of drop-ins for this host.

I also tried Surefire TIR with XPE/XPG/XML & did not like any of them,
I am too picky for beam quality & ended up going back to surefire stock XRE/TIR combo.

After that, I sold sold most of the drop-ins in the shoot out, last drop-in with TIR is FS here:
