Recently got some of these AA batteries. They are rated typically 2000mah. The packets are coded NH-AA-B4K. Both the packets and the batteries themselves are stamped "Made in Japan". The batteries have the same squarish '+' connectors like the Sanyo Eneloops and I think it's safe to conclude that they are indeed the same.

Most probably yes. Sony have used Sanyo NiMH cells for quite some time.

Do you know if the minimum capacity and charge retention at six months and one year coincide with the Eneloops as well?

They were a little cheaper than Eneloops - £6 for 4 delivered whereas Eneloop in the UK is usually about £8 delivered. The box says they retain 90% of the charge after 6 months - and 85% after 1 year.

They are most probably Eneloops.

It seems to me that all the others I've heard of are more similiar to the Yuasa-Mitsushita model (2100mAh capacity, 80% charge at 6 months, 70% charge at one year, 500 to 1000 cycles).

Picked up a pack of Sony Cycleenergy AAs today. I noticed in the fine print in the bottom back of the label:

"This Nickel-Metal Hydride Rechargeable Battery uses improved self-discharge eneloop technology."

Considering that Sanyo probably trademarked the name "eneloop", I think this statement pretty states unequivocally that Sony Cycleenergy = Sanyo Eneloop!

I bought a pack marked NHAAB4K, "Made in China" text in the pack and cells.
"75% charge after 1 year" text in the pack.
Numbers 0807 in the plastic covering the cells just under +Reghargeable- text.
Out of the box cell voltages were all 1.307V, my cheapo charger discharging rate should be 350mA and all 4 cells were at 1.0V in 4:05-4:10 hours.

It appears that Sony is following Duracell's lead and sourcing their low self-dischage cells from China now.

Hopefully, it won't be in lieu of those from Japan, and the re-badged Eneloop will continue to be available along with those from China.

It's notable that, like Duracell, they are also assigning the same part number to the cells from both China and Japan. Unlike Duracell, however, they may at least be differentiating the packaging.

You will notice that the first image of the CycleEnergy Blue packaging contains a discharge chart typical of the Eneloop, whereas the second does not:

They have packs of 2 for £2.53 so £5.06 for a pack of 4 (for some reason their 4 pack is £6.33). If you try and order through their website you find out that the have a flat shipping charge of £11. However if you phone up and speak to them they'll be able to quote you a lot less for shipping.

I got 12AAs and 4AAAs for a total of £23.51 shipped. I haven't found anywhere cheaper for Eneloops in the UK.

(And I am not affiliated with them in anyway !)

First, this thread is about Sony Cycle Energy Blue cells, not eneloops.
Second, that website has "Shipping (Standard - EU Delivery )£40.00"so it if you are not in the UK thats not so good deal...

thanks for the welcome and I'll let u know what the date code is when I get them which should be today/monday.

EDIT received them today. the packaging says 02-2008 but the code on the batteries say 07 09EV.

and egsise.. I wasn't meaning to derail the thread and there was some discussion about the costs of eneloops earlier . I am sorry the shipping to you would cost so much though if u were in the UK they are the cheapest u can find! guess there has to be some perks to living here even in a crashing economy !
