if the marking codes are the same 16 AL, does it matter
which package i get as long as i hook up the 3 pins(base/em/col) correctly?
i'm in need of a sot23 package transistor with marking code 16 AL...
and all i can find are sot89 BCX53-16 AL pnp...just wondering if they
are functionally the same.

Should be no problem. SOT89 package usually allows slightly higher power dissipation on account of the larger tab.

I presume this is obvious, but since you did not clearly say it: the transistor type BCX53-16 is the same in both cases?

Thanks guys, considering the transistor is 7cents..and my circuit is
already fried..there's no real loss if i cant get it working again.

trying to modify a simple single level driver into a 2 mode(high/low).
dont have a background in this stuff...i'm just a nub who likes to tinker.
