well, i guess stainless would be pretty cool, but the aluminium version is IMHO plenty tough enough for almost everything... the only complaint i have so far is that the head is quite hard to turn with hands wet or greasy. i hope they soon add knurling - that would make this little flashlight close to perfect. okay okay, maybe some circuit to improve lightouput over batterie-runtime but we can't have everything, can we ?

Gandalf, hi.

I asked Inova, they assured me that a Stainless version would never be made for pruduction. They have a small number of samples only, I believe only 2.

But the new X5 with a click switch is due out soon, next few weeks/days.

Meantime, there are some publicity pictures, high-res stuff of the packaging shots, @ http://www.inovalight.com/graphics.html

As mentioned above, it'ld be like a 5D Maglite in a 5" package. Somewhat on the heavy side. TX

Does anyone know if the stainless steel Inova
X5 is available yet?

Also, I couldn't find Inova's homepage, although it came up in a google search yesterday. Inova's homepage was down, and I didn't bookmark it.

Today I can't find the URL. Anyone have Inova's homepage URL?

I guess there are three finishes for the X5. I ordered a silver one with white LEDs from SapphireLight, but they sent a silver/blue combination. When I returned it they sent out a titanium/white LED combination. This finish is darker than the clear finish aluminum and very attractive. It is called Titanium but does not have the warm pinkish look that real titanium has. It's really more of a gunmetal gray. This is an elegantly designed flashlight and looks great in this finish.

The only thing worse than being a flashaholic is being a machinist flashaholic.

I own a titanium X5, custom machined titanium body, knurled, with standard head. (Going to make up a new Ti head soon, I'll have to open up the old one to get at the guts.)

I've also machined grooves in a friend's X5 head and installed flat type O rings for gripping. Or you can wrap some of that grippy "marine walk" tape around it. I've knurled my own, but that busts up the anodization.

I have a GM 6P with a Z32 SIS bezel machined down with polished brass decorative tapered inserts. I like the gun metal, black and gold look together. Its a curse to buy expensive torches, chuck 'em up and cut on 'em, but I can't stop.
