I just noticed, the great and powerfull Stingmon has beaten me to 1000 posts. In addition, his posts are worthwhile

You should worry, Ken B: my first post and I go and put it in the wrong *category!
(*'Bulb'n'batts for Mag 2-D?' in the General section rather than here, in the LED bit. Not v. clever of me, seeing it was an LED question I was meaning to ask. Duhh.) (Not so much 'Pierce the Night' as 'Shoot in the Foot'!)

Well, those posts that aren't pictures of someone kicking over a toliet bowl anyway.

Maybe I should come up with a new "test target" for the stronger flashlights.
Maybe something like this?

Or maybe not... I ought to just stick to the old standby paper target. :)

I am reminded of when I was a young ladd. I had a plug in popcorn maker that was not working. In my infinite wisdom, as part of my testing, I removed the cord from it and ever so carefully, spit in the end.

Well, let me tell you, the problem was not lack of power.

I see you have many glass insulators around your toilet...did you have a similar expirence?

Well, when I was around 4, I unplugged the speakers from my brother's stereo and plugged the wires into an AC receptacle.
The brilliant magenta flames were pretty, but I didn't care for the loud buzz... I never did *that* again. :-O

Maybe that's why I started collecting all those damn insulators?

Or maybe it was to cover up that lovely "waterfront" view I have here... yeah, of a waterfront hotel!!

I did not know that the whole CPF is just a game about 'who gets first XXX postings'.

I just had to learn a few days ago that people do not make new lights and circuits to improve lights (in which way ever), no, it is to 'have fun'.

Fortunately, a year ago I decided not to join CPF at this time....

Beside the 1000+ postings, in my opinion, Stingmon also leads in the 'most valuable postings' contest (at least for me).

Thanks for setting me straight guys, guess I wouldn`t make a good pirate...oh, and sorry about the lass thing...I corrected it.

Pelu, I agree, Craigs postings are the best
wink.gif

Funny... I never thought of reaching 1,000 posts as a "contest" either. But when it was up in the high 900s I do admit I started watching the counter a bit more closely so I could make note of where my 1000th post ended up.
grin.gif

Not since I ran a dial-up BBS back in the late 80s through the late 90s did I get to 1,000 posts on any kind of public forum.

It's also good to know that you guys have found most of my posts to be worthwhile... thanks!
smile.gif

If you're not having "fun" while improving the lights, you shouldn't be doing it!

There doesn't have to be any specific purpose attached to CPF except to share ideas, views, thoughts, opinions and experimental successes and failures so we all learn from each other and have a good time doing whatever we like to do with flashlights. If you enjoy improving lights and have fun doing so, you're in the right place!

Noticing that Craig has 1000+ posts is just a fun tangent - this certainly isn't a contest. Many of these disussions are just a display of camaraderie.

And I agree, Craig's content is not only high-volume, but high-quality as well!

Ken B, are you tryin' to tell us something, just messin' with our minds or using it in a generic sense?
wink.gif

lass, lassie:
A girl or young woman.
A sweetheart.

ladd, laddie:
A boy or young man; a lad.

Maybe you could use lad/s like some writers use s/he (gag me with a spoon for even suggesting that - d'oh!)

..Thanks for clearing that up Artie..and also, I do believe we should be hanging him from the yardarm, not the lanyard? Or maybe we could hang him from the yardarm with a lanyard? (just the thought gives me a shiver of fear ;>)

The very simple reason for improving lights is to get better lights which are not available otherwise.
I'm mainly a light user and depend on it a lot. And every good engineer is a lazy person, always thinking about how to save work (at any effort).
I'm too lazy to clean my carbide lights regularly and wash my hands afterwards.

Serious: Of course I was kidding about the contest. I think it is refreshiung that people try new things and pioneer new light sources. And we all should not take ourselfes too serious. The lights we produce could never survive as a commercial product. Only a few exceptions there. We should be well aware that we make it for fun. I sometimes forget these things, you guys bring me back.

Hey, lightlover, some people say that my humour is somewhat British (spending a month a year with brits leaves some marks...).

Why I fortuntely decided not to join? Because I did not have to take part in the 1000 postings competition. But maybe I'm leader in the ununderstandable postings count?
And on the other hand, when I'm getting ill somewhere (everybody around me was ill in the last half year except myself), I will have a good time reading old postings.

For the having fun: In another thread I took a question too serious and answered too 'scientific' and was told that the main reason here is to have 'fun'.

Are we having fun now?

The whole thing is leading to the question waht having fun is? People who watch a scary movie, are they having fun (beeing afraid)?

I'm very interested in lightsources adn when I read something really interesting about it, I'm not having fun. But I have a good time.

The great and powerfull Stingmon has also beaten Shakespeare, Hemingway and Dostoevsky to 1000 posts! I believe these people did post on other forums. A quick check of Amazon gives less than 40 posts for Dostoevsky, though to fair, most of his posts were somewhat longer than Stingmon's. So don't despair KenB, there are others that were beaten to 1000. And, I haven't seen any posts by these other guys in ages.

You're right, Walter: Shakey, Hemingway and Dosto' were indeed flashlight fans.

'But soft, what light from yonder window breaks' is clearly Shakespeare's remark on seeing Stingmon aim yet another sample at the hotel across the street; only to be outdone by Hemingway's boast that his beam reaches further: 'Across The River And Into The Trees;' though it's nice to see one of Dostoevsky's early working-titles ended-up inspiring Stingmon: 'Crime & Punishment Zone.'

Pierce The Night

Good one Pierce !

Shake-Speare also wrote a sonnet about the SF M6, beginning -

"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day ...... "

(it goes on to explain that that's up to 70 yards only.)

(Hail KenB - he has now actually posted 1,000 times !
Methinks he's trying to get away without a commemorative post/topic.
Probably, Brock is to be the next *thousander*.)

As an interesting side note, we had an earthquake while I was making this trophy.
The whole place jiggled a bit and I heard a light bulb break somewhere in the house.

(Sorry Chris, I think it was one of your figurals).

Also heard that New York City also had an earthquake on Saturday afternoon or evening.

Wow, thanks Craig.

Let`s hope that jiggle is all there will be. I would make a speech, but I would rather not risk loosing my trophy.
