Stochastic Mag Reflector?

Until two days ago, I never owned any C or D Maglites due to the pathetic beam quality that I recalled from many years ago. Yesterday I bought two for modding purposes, and somehow expected "today's" beam quality to be better. I was surprised to find that it's the same.

Haven't any aftermarket companies come to the rescue with a stochastic (i.e. Surefire-like) Mag reflector? It seems a trivial replacement.

i believe the *ag reflector dimensions are copyrighted

stifling progress is one of the things *ag does best. their own and others.

hehe, i e-mailed them asking if they had any plans to introduce a metal reflector, because no matter what you clean them with, they will scratch. (i mean *anything*!!!)

the idiots responded that aluminum reflectors are actually easier to scratch!!

i didn't even bother asking about a stipled because i knew they would just yell at me.

no "MAGLITE" board member, sane or insane lawer representing the "MAGLITE" company could sue anyone here with referance to whether they like the product or not or make such a hindrance to the aformentioned company. it is free speech afterall. if one wants to license or market a product they of coarse need to be carefull. but out of respect to someone else whether they like the person or company (MAGLITE)or not, they should still feel free to go by the constitution. We here @ cpf can use "MAGLITE" with no, none, nada difference to arc as it is the case in these forums.

I stopped by the Maglite booth at the Shot Show and asked what they had that was new. The girl said "blue packaging" with a laugh, and the guy said "this booth" with a laugh. He did tell me after some prodding that they are going to start making their own reflectors now. I asked if it would be textured, he said no, that cuts down on the brightness of the beam.

Walmart has some 'Sam's Choice' 3-d cell lights on clearance for $3 each, and they have these lovely 'prismatic' reflectors, so I bought a bunch. The reflector looks to be the right diameter to fit into a Mag, but the bulb hole will need a little opening up to make it fit around the bulb holder. They are a little shallow also, but if I could get a nice even fixed focus flood out of the Mag with no black hole I would be quite happy.

The lights themselves are pretty nice for the price, and the reflector work very well with a couple of the jbechto 4 led cluster bulbs that I have.

Just put a layer of Write-Right over the lens for a dramatic improvement of the beam quality.

The pictures really don't do it justice. The improvement is tremendous.

Those 3-D sam's choice lights are excellent lights for general use. Very good output and beam. I got one on clearance as well and it's sitting by the front door. They're also great for mods because they have so much room in the head. This was one of my first Mods:

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">They're either misinformed or untruthful. The Magcharger has an excellent smooth aluminum reflector that throws one of the longest beams of any flashlight.
