I bought the Streamlight Clipmate from www.brightguy.com, and I was impressed with it.

(edit - My link to brighguy now works, a comma was screwing up the address!)

Compared to my Priceton Tec Attitude, and my Opalec Newbeam (both 3 LED lights), I would say that the Clipmate puts out a slightly brighter, abit bluer (but bright blue), wider field of light than the other two lights. All three were judged with fresh batteries, the just released Rayovac maximum plus batteries on sale at Wal-mart.

I think the secret to the wider, slightly brighter light, is that the LED's are mounted in a silver, mirrored finish reflector. As we all know, LED's are directional lights, and shouldn't need a reflector, but for those of you that own Attitudes, you know that there is a backwash of light that comes out of the back of the bezel.

The light comes with a very strong clip, (hence the name clipmate) that allows this light to be attached on a ballcap, or on just about anything. The light does come with a headband, that is comfortable, and although it looks awkward, is suprisingly comfortable, and the headlamp works well.

The light is rather awkward to hold in you hand, however, with the clip attached. However, the clip can pop out of the socket, and now you have a very small light to carry with you. It is about the length of my middle finger. smaller than the Attitude or Mini-mag Opalec newbeam.

One side of the light (the side with the logo on it) is curved, but the other side is almost completely flat, allowing you to set it down, or velcro it to something. I am thinking of replacing my Attitude's that are velcroed to my retractable dog leash to the clipmate (sans the clip! Would that be called the mate?)

I think that in both of these pictures, you can see the relfective sides, and I think that is what makes this light give a little more light than it's peers.

It takes 3 AAA batteries.

I still like my Opalec and my Attitudes, but the light output on this light is superior to the other two lights.

My Opalec is still my night time "get a drink in the middle of the night" light, as I have a tailcap switch installed, and it is just a nice light!

BUT, the versitility of this little light has to be seen to be appreciated!

The clip, the shape, the bezel, everything looks identical!

Makes you wonder if they were independly designed?

Oh, one more thing.

I usually prefer tailcap switches to twist on twist off switches, but this Clipmate (with the clip off) is soo small, that it can be easially turned on or off with one hand! And, the bezel is made of a soft rubber, so it has enought friction to turn the head. The rubber bezel makes it stay, when setting the light down of a flat surface, when not using the light.

I bought one of the Clipper 3 lights, and carried it in a little holster on my belt. Unfortunately, because the tail section takes so little of a turn to make it come off, the clip and tailcap caught on something and vanished one workday. I was peeved. I hope the Streamlight version is better-attached than the Clipper one was. I'd have to redesign the holster before carrying this light that way again.

I have a Streamlight Clip-Mate light and am very pleased with it. The light is somewhat uneven outside of the center spot, however it has excellent output for its size. The clip with the swivel joint works well. The package states that it is "water resistant". The LED head and switch assembly is not removable. The twist-on battery cap does have an o-ring seal. I don't think it is designed to be submerged under water, but I can't say for sure.
The package says the light is made in China.
Hummm...it does look like a twin to the Nightbuster Clipper 3.
BuddTX--I clicked the link on your post but the website wouldn't come up. The Brightguy website is a secure website.

I ordered mine from www.flashlights.com

Thanks for the post. I almost ordered a PT Attitude last night. Now I am thinking I should get the Clip Mate instead.

I like the idea of being able to use the clip for hands free work, but I already have a single LED light that does that. I guess the obvious solution to my delima of which light to buy is to buy BOTH.

Since they cost about the same, which is a better buy? The PT Aurora or SL Clipmate? I already have an Aurora BTW.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Now I am just guessing here, but the Attitude takes 4 AAA batteries, whereas the Clipmate takes 3 AAA's, so the possibility exists that the Attitude would stay brighter, longer, than the Clipmate. Brightguy rates the Attitude at "up to 150 hours", and the Clipmate at "80 hours".

Also, the Attitude is waterproof up to 500 feet, whereas the Clipmate is stated at being "water resistant". The neighborhood kids come up to me when I am walking my dog, and ask to see my cool lights, and often times, they end up in a neighbor's pool, or in a puddle, so I am glad that I have the Attitude's mounted on my retractable dog leash!

How funny that my link did not work. It does not work for me either, but when I type it in, (the same exact way), it works just fine.

Here is a cut and paste from the link that I verified that works:

I am going to start another topic about EDC with the Streamlight.

I own the one-LED version of this light.
After a month of EDC, there's already wear on the PCB (contacts from the battery holder scraping against it every time you put it on or off).

Anyone has the same prob.?
Should I worry?

I would be willing to bet the Attitude and the Clipmate would run very close to the same light output and runtime. I say this because the Attitude uses 4 batteries and a resistor and the Clipmate uses 3 batteries and no resistor. So I am guessing the resistor just about eats up the 4th battery. I have the Nightbuster version of the Clipmate and it is a bit dimmer then the Attitude, probably because the Attitude is pushing the LED at a bit higher voltage? I suppose I should buy one of the Surefire Clipmate to test for sure.

I do really like the complete waterproofness (is that a word?) and durability of the Attitude, but I didn't like the spill so I put it in a rage case.

I was also concerned about the wear on the board in my Nightbuster Clipper, but haven't had a problem yet. Is the Clipmate built the same way?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hard to say, I own both!

The Aurora is waterproof, has a high, med and low, fast and slow flashing, and fits more snugly against the forehead.

The Clipmate sticks out of your forehead further, but some people prefer that as it does not reflect against eyeglasses or reflect into the eyes.

If I were working at my desk, and needed light, I would think I would prefer the Clipmate, but for any active activity, such as hiking or changing a tire, I would prefer the Aurora.

I picked one up when BrightGuy had a special on this light. I am quite happy with it. The three LED's gives even wide light. The are well merged. The form factor of this light is good and with the clip it can be attached anywhere.

It is not as sturdy as Attitude. I had the clip/batter cover pop on me unexpectedly.

I also have the one led-version of clipper three. There was 15 ohm resistor in the bezel before i add 3 leds in it and changed the value to 5 ohm.

There was no o-ring in the bezel so I quess its not water resistant.

Anyway, it is decent value for the money (11$)around here because PT Attitude would be about
(30$)
