I'm looking at upgrading both a twintask and nightcom streamlight. From the little bit of info I could find searching, I'm thinking I understand correctly that if I put two 3.7v 123's instead of the stock 3v's, the led's will be ok, but the incan bi-pin will poof...

If I change the incan out to one properly rated, will the led's and driver/circuit/whatever they have be ok?

Thanks in advance!

I tried taking this apart, but I'm not sure how to get the part out that holds the leds/bulb, and I don't want to break it. Do you guys think the LED's would be ok at 7.4v instead of 6v? I'm thinking of putting in a TL3 bulb and trying it, but really don't want to blow the led's or circuit board.

I have a single cell twin that i have run on 3.7v and the incan puffed but the leds work ok. They are being over driven tho so the will not last long. I replaced the incan with a rayovac 3aaa bulb and it works good but the leds draw more current then the incan.

Upgrading these lights is dicey. If you double the voltage, the bulb will poof; if you change the bulb to a higher rated one, the leds will go poof (if not immediately, shortly) and the reflector may melt as it is plastic (IIRC) and the 2x wattage of the incan will be alot hotter.

The good news is, that SL is about to release new versions of the Nightcom; there are a few variants in led color, anodize color, etc. They have an led in place of the incan, and 3 5mm colored leds around it. They are using their "C4" led, which is Lumileds latest, and a quality led on par with Cree and SSC. Price is relatively low, around 35-45 I think; you can check around.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried it earlier with the 3.7v batteries. The LED's worked, but as you said, I'm not sure for how long they would continue that way.
