At the end of august I'm going away with some (non flashaholic), we'll be staying up in the hills, and I'd like to get people out for a night walk (If we can pry ourselves away from the fire)

I'll obviously be taking tonnes of lights, but since most of my fun options are 18650/123 based, I'd like to get my hands on maybe 5/6 single AA lights to hand out to people as loaners/gifts.

Ideally I'd like a 3 mode peak output around 100 lumens (actual, so probably 200 DX lumens at least ;) )

Current options are the Ultrafire C3, or the Akoray K106 5-mode both of which have a strobe that I'd like to avoid.

Does anyone have any better suggestions? Budget is maybe $15/$20 max for something awesome.

I have to be honest, you really do not need a very bright light for camping and night walks. I tried recently to navigate by a single candle and it was fine. So for that, an E01 fits your budget and works great as a camp light that will see EDC usage.

ID go for shiningbeams Romisen RC-N3's in ww for anything outdoors, theyre like a poor mans tk20 and in my mind, for the price, nothing compares to them for practical outdoor use  If you want a single aa one then the updated RC-G2's come in ww tint as well now..

I should probably be a bit clearer in what I'm looking for.

Although a low low is preferable for navigating, id still like to give them something with a bit of wow factor, hence the multimodes.

Any of the romisens are quite good imo
one of the tank007's might also be a good choice.

Which C3? The original one is crap and the SS multimode seems to be crap now too.

The Akoray K106 5-mode also has some QC issues... I doubt you will find a good multimode AA light for around $15, the cheapest good one is probably iTP A2 or the 3-mode K-106.

Hmm, thought as much, I have a 2aa C3 which is fine on 2AAs, but only works on Lithium primaries in 1AA mode.

Might have to go with a few less of the K-106s, more people will have to use mine.

For a non-flashlight savvy person I'd go with a single mode. The Romisen G2 from shiningbeam is really impressive. If you think they can handle the three modes then you could wait on the three mode version coming out (someone mentioned it above.) I am extremely happy with mine, I'd say the build quality is as good as any fenix I have. It has a forward clicky, throws easily 100yards, the warm tint is really cool also. (Is that an oxymoron?) I also have the three mode programmable Akoray 106. It's a good light but the programming could easily confuse someone who isn't used to it. On an akaline I don't think it's as impressive as the Romisen G2. I also have the UF C3 (single mode P4 I think.) Mine has been great, the clicky was always really soft. I think there was a lot of quality issues after I bought mine, not sure if that has been worked out in the last year or two or not. I also have the iTP A2 which was mentioned, I probably like it best out of all the ones I have mentioned in this post. Output wise the A2 is not as impressive as the RC-G2. The A2 is more floody and slightly less overall output I think. But the A2 weighs nothing with an L91 Energzier, has a clip which can be reversed for use as a headlamp on a cap, and has a low low and a high enough high.

I already have a stash of G2s around the place, just spotted lighthound has Q3 5C XREs, so thats an option as well. Suppose theres no harm in wrecking your night vision if everyones got lights ;)
