Suggest good light for night cycling?

Hello!

I want to get a light so that I can cycle at night. A friend of mine has a 10 watt halogen lamp which works very well for night riding. I'm not sure what the LED equivalent rating would be.

I basically have two questions: 1) is there a such thing as a bicycle mounted LED housing? 2) how many lumens should I be shopping for? (I realize it also has to do with how tightly the beam is focused, but I want to get a good general idea of what I need for safe night cycling)

It would take a light like the HDS to even come close to that. LED lights tend to be to smooth of a beam of light for seeing distances, they are somewhere between flourescent and normal flash lights. The HDS runs about $280, I would suggest a halogen and a rechargable battery pack.
