WoW, I got to see one a friend has...and it is just plain unbelievable when you see it in person

The color is so nice.. I have to have one

Yep. IMHO the color in this application is worth the loss of some efficacy in the LED. It changes everything in the near field illumination, and the beam of the SunDrop is just gorgeous.

It's a must-have light for any detail work within arm's length. The color temp seems to sharpen my depth perception, for whatever reason. Members that don't (yet) have one cannot believe what they're missing.

I am one of the lucky guys to have a Sundrop.
The Sundrop is all about how great it makes other things look.
I agree that for close up detail work it can't be beat. Photos taken under it's light look very nice (make sure that you color balance the camera to the light).
Colorful objects just look better under the sundrops light than ordinary leds. Period.
I look forward to the day that Don sells light engines based on the 083 HI CRI emitter.
I have said in the past and I will say it again.
The CRI specification is going to become a number we seek like we seek lumens today.
In the not so distant future when (not if) emitters which have a HI CRI spec as well as good lumen numbers (better efficiency that we have today with HI CRI emitters) Available, many of us will be seeking out these emitters just like so many look for good bins based mostly on HI Lumen output.

In the mean time we have the wonderful little Sundrop to keep us busy.

In light of an e-mail I just received, I think I need to comment here. The SunDrop head was designed specifically with the 083 Nichia in mind and I designed it such that the lens is as close to the LED as possible. In one fit test I did, I was able to put a Dragon LE in the SunDrop head but on paper, depending on the tolerances, the Dragon LED is potentially in contact with the lens. I believe any of the other LE's using a Cree or Seoul will have the LED make contact against the lens well before the LE is completely inserted in the head.
