I just picked one up on Ebay for about 70 bux two years old rarely used..

anyways.....I just got the darn thing but have no idea at what rate I should be charging /discharging my mag 85 pack..

when I set it to discharge at over 1.2a it kicks out on overload protection...

then cycles back on till it kicks out again...
normal?

I have it set to charge at 1.0 amps right now for the pack...

9x2300mah batts......any experts out there with some tips?

choices are battery type, number of cells, and charge/ discharge amperage.

you program it manually according to the size of your pack.

Its just the charge rate itself is completely left up to the user...

0 to 5 amps....

Hello DarkLight,

I am concerned that something might be wrong with your power supply. When it trips out at the 1.2 amp charging rate, what do you read for Vi?

What are you using for a power supply?

A 1 amp charge rate should be fine for 2.3 Ah cells.

charges fine its kicking out on PACK DISCHARGE.....

I am using a 18ah 12v sla for power, fresh from the trickle..

Charges just fine...just on the discharge cycle its generating too much heat... I guess.

btw fox I fixed the problem an output transistor was not heat sinked right and burned up, I replace it and all is well!

Hello DarkLight,

It sounds like it is capable of around 14 watts of discharge capability. If you exceed (or sometimes come close) to that, it shuts down.
