I just recieved a Surefire 6P in a trade and I have a few questions. First the 6P came with a rechargeable conversion kit; extension, batteries and charger. The question I have is that the 6P has a R60 lamp assembly but I'd like something a little brighter. Is a P61 lamp the brightest that I can use? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I believe you can use a P61, but it will shorten the runtime of the battery. There are no other Pxx series LA's that are brighter than the P61 and will work on the 3ish volts. Also, if you need a new lamp, you can use the P60 now. The R60 is outdated and no longer made. I really like my 6R (rechargeable 6P) due in part to the fact that you can always take the adapter off and switch to 123's. Hope this helps.

I have not had a problem running the P61 in a G2 with the B65 I do not leave it on long as I have heard that it will melt the lens. I do not know that as a fact just what I heard somewhere.

Thanks guys, I'll have to give the P61 a try and see if it's bright enough. I'm not worried about run time I'm just looking for the most light I can get out of the 6R.

Well I think the KT1 comes to mind. 6P+KT1+MN61 lamp +2A19's + 2 A14's+ 2 B65's=350 lumens. OOOOOOH RAAAAAHHHH!

While it is theoretically possible to add several A19's to achieve a 12V light one should not forget that resistance between each threading adds up loosing some battery power as a result. In comparison a 3P+3A19's is supposed to be less bright/white to a 12PM. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It does work though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I do not have a light meter so I would not disagree. I will say it is real bright. Not sure about run time is it lessoned by this combo?

I have tried the P61 in the 6R and it lights bright for under 10 minutes. The battery gets pretty warm. I don't think it's worth keeping that type of setup due to the run time but to have a nice short lived bright light that's rechargable, have at it!

Enjoy...

Wow, some great info. Is there an alternative to the P61 lamp? I don't know enough about flashlights to mod the 6R but I'd like to make it brighter than my Stinger if possible and still retain at least 20min runtime. I'm thinking that it might just be smarter to buy a new light, possibly a Stinger HP.
