Surefire E2E getting shorter?

Two E2E-HA's bought together a week ago, the boxes are identical:

Is this a tolerance issue? >2mm longer seems a bit much...

There's a visible gap between the front part and the main head part in the longer one, and the lamp assembly is stuck, but it could probably be removed with force. The longer one had the Z52 rotary switch, which might indicate that it is the older version. Both have the newest body with 3 rounded sides. The longer one has a more focused beam with a brighter hotspot:

Even the slightest bit of difference between bulbs can cause the beam shape to change quite a bit as shown. Believe me, I know this very very well......

My personal E2e has the longer bezel ring thingy like the one on the left in the middle pic. SureFire replaced my bezel with a new one because the reflector was damaged. The original bezel was one with the short crenelation on it, the replacement is the deeper crenelation. It may be barely noticeable, but the deeper one doesnt have quite as wide of a sidespill.
