SureFire EDC1-DFT and EDC2-DFT

@Lights and Guns thanks for a great review.

Scout light or shrouded Z61 (and variants) would be a bit slimmer. If this doesn't bother you, then it's just an add-on $20-30 investment. E1L-Outdoorsman has the Lumens Factory variant which allows you to insert three tritium vials.
Ah! Beautiful.
Yes, I think I will be picking up one of these E series tail caps to throw on the light. Shrouded tail cap won't only help with tail standing but also less accidental discharges of the light if clipped to your pants pocket or thrown in your pocket loosely.

Thanks for the info guys!

I posted a pic in here if you are curious on the aesthetics.

thanks for that, would you recommend it or stick with tail cap that came with it? Considering there's that ledge you mention.
I moved back to the original tail cap.. I didn't experience any negligent light discharges and I don't need to stand up the light for my uses.

It's really personal preference, but truth be told if SF made a proper shrouded tail cap I'd probably buy it..

Isn't the Z68 a proper shrouded tail cap? I know it's a bit narrower at the base than the EDC caps but that wouldn't bother me.
I'd happily use a Z68 on the EDC1/2 if I wanted a shrouded cap but I like the one they come with for that particular light.

My favourite Lego with a Z68.

Nice, looks to be a perfect / flush fit body to tail cap.

For now I think I'm going to stick with the tail cap SF has on the EDC 1/2

I quite like it and can live without the ability to tail stand.

I agree, the tail cap that comes on the EDC is just right. I like the Surefire switch action too.

The Lego above has no gaps because I disassembled the head and tail cap completely. When I modified and reassembled the head I was able to make it seamless (as in no gaps). The beam on that head with the Osram is the most perfect I've seen from any Surefire TIR either stock or modified.
The tail cap sits flush for similar reasons. I modified a McClicky to fit so when reassembled and screwed on has no gap.
She's almost too pretty to use.

One thing I noticed the other night about the EDC1/2 is that the low setting on my 1 is higher than on the (my) 2.
The high on the 2 is brighter as expected.

Yup, nothing wrong with the Z tail cap per se, it's just a bit of my OCD with it not being flush with the body.

I also have a HA version of the Turbo along with Black, did SF ever make a Z68 in HA color? I couldn't find one online.

I've seen one in tan.
OCD is a completely valid reason. I'm trying to tame mine 😀

Oh man.. I may need to buy a tan turbo if I can source that Z68 in tan as you mentioned... rut roh

Just checked mine. That is correct.

Low on the 1 oddly seems to be brighter and a cooler tint then the 2.

Not sure why, as per the spec sheet should be at 25 lumens just like the 2.

For both the lights, I was a little underwhelmed from the low mode at first, but after using it during nighttime without any ambient light around, it actually is brighter than initially thought and very useful to get around the house ect if you needed to use it as your only light source. Gives off more than enough light to get around, without giving off too much light that it'd unnecessarily kill the battery quicker then needed.

I don't think these lights make for the best "EDC" light, there are plenty of others that do a better job.
With that said, they aren't marketed as such, which is a good thing, its just weird they are called the "EDC 1 +2" such a strange name to use for these lights.

But as an EDC for Self-Defense / tactical light at work on a duty belt or LBE ect. These are fantastic lights.
EDC for checking for loose change under ur car seat and on the construction site, not so much.

I went in person and picked up the black and HA... Initially I was going to grab a tan to change things up, but in person the tan looked weird. Didn't look tan, it was a marginally lighter shade of the HA, and looked like they didn't do a great job of matching the head/body/tailcap because throughout there were lighter/darker shades.

So I left the tan behind and took the black/HA...
Glad i went in person to look at them..

For anybody thinking about ordering a tan, i'd suggest going to a store in person to view the tan your purchasing. It looks quite different (or at least the sample shown to me did)! Looks very different of a color compared to online pics.

Does anybody know if I put the DFT-1 on an 18650 body, if it will happily run on that battery? I'd hate to damage the light
The EDC1-DFT runs on an 18350 at 3.7V; the 18650 is the same voltage, just more capacity; so yes, it should be safe to use an 18650 on an EDC1-DFT. Just don't stick two CR123s in it. The higher voltage at 6V will harm the one cell head.

Please: can any gentleman tell me which model of OSRAM LED is used in EDC2?

Pics of the new Malkoff HTL 3 mode (duel fuel head) on an EDC1-DFT. The threads fit nicely but it doesn't seem to cover the last o-ring. Curious if it would be a perfect fit on the other duel fuel surefire bodies.

The gap seems to be discernable, but can be covered by another o-ring. Same thing with the Weltool LH5, although the gap is a bit smaller when compared to the photo of the Malkoff HTL above.
