Hi guys...

I recently bought a Surefire G2 Nitrolon in Tan on ebay as a dedicated tac lite mounted on an AR15.

To my dismay, I failed to realize that surefire made incandescent versions of the flashlight and what I really wanted was an LED version of this light.

I did do some research here and there seems to be a plethora of LED upgrades for the light?

I was hoping for some advice on what to get...

Here are my needs..

-Absolutely reliable
-Can handle the stress of being mounted on an AR15 firing .223/5.56
-I feel 80 lumens is enough light. 120 Lumens would be my max.
-Runtime is important to me

Thanks for your input!

Malkoff LED drop in all the way! I think if you want decent runtime and decent output, the Malkoff M60L would be the way to go.

Found here

From the Malkoff website:
"The output is 140+/- lumens... The runtime is approximately 4 1/2 hours on 2 CR123 primary batteries. It will easily illuminate objects at 150+ feet."

The regular full output M60 was not recommended for use in a plastic bezel G2, but there is a note on the M60L page that says:
"This drop-in module is intended to operate for extended periods in metal or plastic lights."

So I think this would be good to go for your application.

Do you think the Malkoff is as reliable as the Surefire upgrade?

Absolutely. Just run a search on the Malkoff and you'll read post after post of how many people just love these bad boys! I have depended on them for duty use for quite a while now. I use the M60 in all my handheld Surefire lights and I use one in my Surefire M952 weaponlight attached to my SBR.

Just remember, anything can fail. I carried a 6P w/ P60L in it for a while. Dropped it once and :poof:

Sent it to SF & they fixed it for me. But I gotta tell you that Gene Malkoff's customer service is top notch, his drop-ins are well made, and the M60 output blows the Surefire P60L away. I don't have any personal experience w/ the M60L, but I've read great things about it.

I know the Malkoffs have a great reputation, but are there any other drop ins, that will get the job done for less than $60? I know you get what you pay for.

best,
jr

You said you could get by with 80 lumens here you go excellent runtime and on sale for $39. On Gene's site M60LL

This is the Malkoff Devices Low Low*Ouput version of the P60 style dropin with solid brass heatsink construction.* This design*utilizes a*Cree 8*degree optic.**The optic has a very nice balance between throw and spill.**It is outstanding for close work and as an emergency/general purpose light.*It was designed specifically for use in SureFire 6P, 6Z, C2, M2*and G2 flashlights. It may or may not fit other models. The input voltage is 3.8 - 9 volts. Below 3.8 volts it will drop out of regulation and run direct drive. The output is 80+/- bulb*lumens. The current draw is*approximately 170ma at 6 volts. The runtime is approximately*8*hours, at full output,*on 2 CR123 primary batteries. It will easily illuminate objects at 100+ feet. The LED is a Cree XRE 7090.* A*fitting ring is required if used with a shock-absorbing head (ie M2).

Wow... i'm guessing Malkoff is top notch!

So much so that people would pay double for a Malkoff emitter vs a surefire one?

I wonder what makes it so much better? Any comments? :)

The Malkoff's are currently only $7 more than the P60L on SF's website, sale not withstanding, making the equivalent Malkoff(M60LL) actually cheaper by $13. The M60LL offers the same output with a better beam pattern, and 5 hours more full power runtime, with bulletproof reliability and the best customer service in the business. I love my M60.

The Malkoff M60 series are a totally different type of P60 style drop-in than the Surefire P60L. The current M60 range use 8 degree optics instead of a reflector. This style of optic gives you a very nice throw/spill combination much favoured by many users.

The outer section of the drop-in is solid brass. The electronics are fully potted ensuring absolute reliability. Some users report no problems in use with a fire arm after thousands and thousands of rounds!

The Malkoff drop ins also offer superior efficiency. As the M60's also have superior heatsinking ability, you have a flatter output profile i.e. the light output won't immediately drop due to an overheating emitter.

To really appreciate the difference between the P60L and an Malkoff M60, you first have to use the standard Surefire module for a while & acquant yourself with its' 80 lumen output. The P60L will appear pretty bright compared with your incandescent P60! Now get an M60 or M60L and see the difference - 235 lumens or 140 lumens OTF with full regulation.

Then and only then will you see why the Malkoff P60 style modules cost twice that of the Surefire P60Ls!

Gene Malkoff is about to release a new M61 drop in so hang off if you can and check out what the new drop in has to offer.

Good luck,

James.....:)

Wow.... i'm sold.... I can wait for the M61... how exciting!

Personally I think the Surefire LED emitters really suck! From the 3 that I have they range from deep blue to dark purple in color. At first I thought maybe it was just the one...then the next, and the next! If your heart is really set on a Surefire LED you can have mine as long as you pay for the shipping! Thay are worthless! The Malkoff is more expensive but if you are putting it on your rifle I would HIGHLY recommend paying the extra coin and getting the Malkoff! Hands down this is the best built drop-in on the market! Your rifle, depending on how many rounds you put through it, will generate some serious recoil. Most cheap Chinese drop-ins are held together by very little and were probably not constructed for heavy recoil! Now if this is a duty rifle please consider spending the extra money for the good stuff. Your life, and your partners life, may depend on it!

I would still reccomend the current M60LL @ $39. the new one may be more than $60.

Can I paid for the shipping for you LED or few extra dollars? I really would like to try it in my C2.

thanks,
