What are the differences and similarities (if any) between the KL1 and the X200? Are they both Lux III? 1W or 3W? How does the light output compare? Do they have similar throw and overall output? How does the KL4 compare to the new X200?

Thanks

The KL1 and X200A feature Luxeon III behind SureFire TIR Optics.
The optics are different - the X200A's beam is far more tight and also the X200A is being driven like twice as hard as the KL1.

The KL4 and the X200B feature Luxeon V (aka 5W) in SureFire reflectors. The output is the same.

I consider the "new" X200 to be the X200B. I'm not sure it has been released yet. The X200A was released quite a long time ago.

I do not have an X200B.

For me, the KL4's beam is the more useful of the three you have mentioned.

Have them.

KL1 2-123 format, works with Pila 168s, LuxIII, TIR optic, great thrower, minimal spill, very white, 1 hour run.

KL4 2-123 format, works with Pila 168s, LuxV, reflector, minimal/moderate throw, great spill, a wall of light, colors vary slightly, 1 hour run.

X200 2-123 format (side by side), won't work with Pila 168s, LuxIII, slightly over driven, TIR optic, great thrower, minimal spill, very white, 1 hour run.

SureFire call their Total Internal Reflectance Optic a "TIR Optic"
Inova refer to theirs as "TIROS"

They are completely different!

I also question the runtimes that MrMom quotes.

OK I guess that we can't generalize here.

KL4 I usually see 55 min of run before dimming with Pilas
KL1 (Gen 4 ) I usually see one hour and ten to fifteen minutes before dimming with Pilas

What times do you see with 123's? I have found that Pila 168s runtimes are a bit less than 123's but times stay in relative proportion to the primary runs. I'm calling the times at first sign of dimming not till 50%.

The older Kl1's ran and ran. It seems as though the newer ones (bright LuxIII's have a greater appetite). You know, you are are motivating me to do a run on a gen 4 KL1. Feeding fresh batts as I type...

Wow! longest run yet- Kl1 (gen 4) on a broken in Pila 168s, window sill cooled to 25F... 1.5 hours run to shut-down.

In the past I had shorter times when warmer.

Please note with this set up there is no dim phase. Pila protection circuits kick in and shuts down at the end.
