I was looking for a new head for my one of my 6P's and came across this gem. I don't how old the KL3 is, but it's safe to say LED tech has come a long way since then. I remember when high brightness LED's were in their infancy and it's cool to see how far we've come since then. It's pretty neat to be interested in a technology that has gone from inhibitivly expensive and almost useless to accessible to and extremely useful in out daily lives.

P.S. look at the one review done in September 2009. The guy seems pretty happy with an upgrade that cost twice as much as the 6P and puts out about as much light as a minimag.
Also notice the high quality HAII :green: anodizing used, come on Surefire!

i own a kl3, and its not that bad.
its pretty decent for its age. some people dont need 400 lumens out the front. I got mine in a sale that involved other parts, but for my parent's sake and especially in case of an emergency (power outtage or something) its more than enough for them to get by.

I've had one for about 5 years, and it currently sits bedside in a of 6P with a 17670 cell. Around the house it's plenty bright.

I got one and it is still a very useful light. I put it on a 9P tube w/beam diffuser & Z49 switch. The Z49 really balances out the "Frankenhead" and the beam diffuser gives off a really soft flood. With 3 cells you get about 7 hours of regulated runtime. Ideal for any emergancy. Throw and glow!

Excellent piece of hardware...other than what others have mentioned, it's the brightest 19 lumens I've ever seen and out-throws alot of my other factory lights. It's more than enough for around the house, and if it had more flood, it'd be an excellent "woods" light. I think it's make a good boat light though, due to intensity/throw of the beam...

To my eyes the 19 Lumens out of the KL3 is still a lot of light. I have both the older finned and newer KL5 styled KL-3 attached to a D3 and C3 both with 2 AA lithium batteries, that's pretty neat.

I have one attached to a "Frankenstein" light (6P body, A19, lock-out tailcap), and it is a pretty good light. To me, the KL3 puts out more than 19 lumens.

In case anyone is interested - besides white, the KL3 was also available with red, blue and green LEDs.

I have one!

But it's got a warm MC-E in it.

Thanks Milky.

The KL3 lumen spec on the SF website for years had not been changed since the introduction of the first model of the KL3, when both the KL1 and KL3 were rated at about the same output. I think the KL1 was rated at 17 lumens then. For some reason, SF never updated the lumen output spec. Today, the KL3 is not offered on their website.
