I just checked out SF's site and saw that the L1 has been updated. I own the previous version.

Anybody had any use with the brand new one? Can you comment on differences? It looks a little shorter and SF is claiming more lumens.

I've been pretty happy with the previous version. I don't remember but I think the low setting is like 1 lumens or something (anybody remember how long it's supposed to last)?

My previous L1 was my overall favorite light... until I got the new one! High is way brighter and more useful... not so spotty... however... the low is also much brighter... enough to be the primary beam. It is also shorter but long enough to fill your hand, and retains the same push for low and push harder for high. Check one out at your local dealer if possible. I ordered one online sight unseen and couldn't be happier!

One of the things I liked about the old one was that low beam. It was great for map reading etc. Brighter beams reflect back too much light.

Do you still use the "old one" at all anymore?

Guys, are the new "CREE" lights hotter than the old ones? Any chance of getting a light that doesn't heat up with use to the point that it is hot to touch?

Yeah, I've been using an E2e incan as an EDC, and the old L1 in a kit for emergencies. I think the Cree L1 can replace the E2e incan--sounds like it anyways.

Yes. If you get your old L1 modified by Milkyspit, it will be around 80 to 100 lumens and will not get hot, just nice and warm (runs for about 90 minutes at full brightness).

Also, the low beam is about 5 lumens and I think runs for about 20 hours at 5 lumens, and then diminishes over at least the next 70 hours.
