The Gander Mountain store in Novi, Michigan has Surefire L1 white LED lights for $ 99.97. I was there Sunday afternoon and they had 3 left in stock. They have the KL1 type head with the optic lens which I believe is the latest generation. The employee I talked to said only the white LEDs were on sale, all other colors were about 125 bucks. L4's were about $ 155.00. I don't know if all GM stores are in on this sale but it may be worth a call.

Damn, I gotta quit going there. Since Thanksgiving I picked up an E1e/KL1, Coleman 1M CP spotlight, Gerber Infinity Ultra and now an L1.

Re: Surefire L1-white at Gander Mountain for $99.

Glad that you bought an L1. Mine is a 3/04 vintage model, with an upgrade to a Luxeon III emitter. This is my favorite light for all reasons. I have other lights that serve other purposes, but this one has a very bright high level and a very dim low level. The battery life on one 123 is very good, too. My L4 is considered to have the best overall spill, and deserves the title of "wall of light." I realized it's true potential when I went to a local museum and used it extensively to illuminate areas which had subdued lighting due to the need for climate control as a means of preserving exhibit integrity.

Regarding your L1, which is indeed the newest version with the TIRO optic and convex window, are the artifacts in the beam pattern objectionable to you at close range? The KL1 bezel was made for throw, and the refraction that occurs due to the optic and convex window accentuates the components of the Luxeon emitter inside of it. The multicolored coronas, and rounded off square die projections are not appealing to me. I am a minority with this opinion though, since most SF lovers do own a KL1 bezel as a item to be mated with another compatible light body, or as part of a stock SF light. If they are happy, then I am happy!

You think that 1 million candlepower is bright? Try one of the Cyclops Solutions Thor-X 10 million candlepower spotlights for $25 at Costco Warehouse stores....Thor-X spotlight

Enjoy your L1 to the fullest, as well as the other two nice items you bought which you are feeling guilty about!!! Do continue to visit Gander Mountain and other sporting goods stores, to see what other nifty toys are available. Shopping is fun, so accept this as a fact of life!

The beam looks fine to me. The center hot spot is solid and I don't really notice any artifacts outside. Low has some artifacts but no worse than an Arc AAA or CMG Inf. Ultra.
