I am almost sure I am going to purchase this particular Surefire. Will it be the right choice?

According to the reviews I have read and the specs concerning this particular model, it has everything going for it.

I would like to hear from those who already own the Surefire M2. Who do you think?

Actually, I want something tough, preferably water-proof to some degree and definitely won't let me down when the going gets rough or tough.

And it must have more than enough light power when I need it.

Perhaps the M2 fits the bill.

If you don't mind carrying it in a holster on your side then yes it is very tough light but too large for me to carry in a pocket.

I quote from the SureFire 2003 catalog:

"The M3 CombatLight is what many consider SureFire's ultimate tactical light ... blah, blah, blah ... If we could only have one SureFire, it would be the M3 CombatLight".

Edit: I own an M3. It is only a 123 battery length longer than the M2, it is brighter, and offers an optional Turbohead for superior throw [I don't have the Turbohead].

How much light do you need in the first place? You do realize that too much light is just as bad as too little light.

How are you going to carry it? EDC? Pocket? Nightstand?

Are you going to use it with a handgun?

It doesn't sound like you actually need the light, if you can't site a real use for it; but if you just want to spend money and get a cool flashlight, then go for it.

It's your money.

I EDC a SF M2 in my right front pocket. It rides there fine with Docker style pants. Tightish jeans wouldn't work well. You'd have to go with a holster (or something).

I wanted something bulletproof and I think the M2 is that. It is a tad bulky, but not too bad IMO. How well you carry is going to depend a bit on your dress style.

The only light I would consider getting instead of the M2 would be the L4, but it would be nice to get a bit of history behind the L4.

I also carry an SF L1, so I have the low end covered. It is a pretty nice range from L1-low, L1-high to M2 (LOLA). The L1-low covers a long runtime option.

If you were a bit less picky about having a range and having only one type battery, you could just add a Arc AAA to your carry.

The M2 was my first Surefire. I chose it 'cos I thought it looked too cool and I love the hardcore look and I had to have one.

I guess your already determined no matter what others say right? But for EDC I do recommand the A2.

I was thinking of the Equatorial climate when I thought of the M2. Hot, wet and pitch black in certain places.

And if it slips from my hand and drops on to a hard surface, I don't want it to "die" on me. If it drops into a pool of water, I want to fish it out and it continues to work no matter what.

With all these thoughts cruising through my mind, the M2 sort of takes on a certain shine.

well...don't mean to be a wet blanket, but the M2 is kinda out-dated, and mine leaked through the lens seal (this problem has apparently been fixed). i initially bought an M2 myself, thinking it would be the last light i needed but it ate batteries too fast and the fact that it was an unregulated incadescent bothered me. i've found an arc LSH covers most of my lighting needs, and besides the kroll switch i think the rest of the light is actually more bulletproof than the M2. i'd actually suggest the arc LSH, surefire A2, surefire L4, or the C2 (M2 is too bulky, and you might not need the P61 or SIS bezel).

i ended up selling my M2, and got an arc AAA, C2, arc LSH, and an M3 (SHTF light). btw the C2 and M2 are essentially the same light, with the M2 having a different bezel. both the C2 and M2 bezels are interchangeable.
