I'm thinking about getting one of the older generation L1's from LA Police Gear (the ones with the wide beam...I believe it would be first gen.) and I was wondering if anyone knows if you can use rechargeables in them. I'm thinking of a red one but I just read that someone else go a red one and the beam had a lot of artifacts in it. Can anyone else confirm this?

I am pretty sure that the L1s that LAPG is closing out are "gen 2" with the TIR optic, which is all throw and no flood. You might *call* them (don't email) to confirm before you buy. Red + throw is kinda contradictory in my mind (but YMMV).

Thanks for the responses guys. I was planning on using protected cells in that light so I may have to reconsider. I called them and they weren't sure which gen. they were selling but the picture matched the one in flashlight reviews that has a very wide spot. I guess there is no way to be sure.

If it has a hex shape to the head then it's first gen. If it's round-headed with a domed lens then it's second gen.
