Surefire upgrade question

I posted this in Cheers, but I have a question:

I'm new to this forum, but I have used/needed quality flashlights for many years.

I took my old 6P Surefire (Still working), with a loose tailcap switch, original plastic lens on original head, and the original incan bulb. I walked into Surefire and asked if they would warranty the switch.

The tech excused himself, walked to the rear room and emerged a few minutes later. He returned with my Surefire with a new updated head with glass lens, a new tailcap with the new style switch, and he replaced my bulb and gave me a new set of batteries. He then gave me all of my old parts back.

Now that is customer service. These Surefires are more money than some of the other lights, but I walked out a happy man with a new light.

So here is my question:

So now I have my old Surefire head w/ plastic lens. Is there a way to ugrade this with a glass lens, or is it worth it? I also have the old style switch, will a clicky fit in it, or do those clickys only work with the new style switch?

I ordered a M61 from Gene, but it is going in my C3. I was wonderring if I could use the old metal Surefire head and put it on my G2 Nitrolon to use as a heatsink for a LED upgrade.

If would be helpful if you can provide a photo of the head and tail cap. If the head has a retaining ring, that can be removed and the lens replaced with one of your choosing. As for the tailcap, maybe a McClicky can fit inside although I'm not sure if it will fit the really old style tailcaps.

I will try and upload a picture, but the head is trhe old style without a ring. The lens looks glued on, or there might be an inner plastic ring holding it. No place to unscrew I think.

The tailcap has a smooth pressure switch, and it is bigger than the new style. I thought I read that the Mcklicky only works on the new style cap?

help and thanks

I'm not sure if this is also a upgrade question, but does anyone know if I can replace the crenelated bezel on a E2L outdoorsman to the one from E2D defender?

Welcome to CPF :welcome:
The E2L has a scalloped bezel - not crenelated like the E2D.
It may be possible to remove the E2DL's crenelated bezel component and swap it with the scalloped one on the E1L (KX1) but that's an aftermarket unsupported modification you'll be doing yourself.

Thanks for the welcome! (So I had a misunderstanding scalloped vs. crenelated.) I recently ordered a E2L from eBay, after thinking for days and choosing it over the E2DL because of fears that the latter may get confiscated at an airport....can never be too sure. Hopefully the E2L is sturdy enough to be used for defense :)

Welcome.

The bezels with the acrylic window ("lens") are a press-fit. You can't retrofit them with glass, as far as I know. You may still be able to find replacement kits, though I think they were discontinued several years ago.

I have had similar customer service (and I do mean service) experiences with SureFire. They're worth every penny, in my opinion.

I am curious also about whether an original 6P be upgraded to a McClicky. The tailcap on the left is a Z41 I bought to replace the original tailcap on my 1995 circa 6P. The original is in the center with its internal part. As you can see, the rubber boot on the original is wider than the boot on the newer Z41.

the original one can not be upgraded with/to a McKlicky
("lacks" the threads necessary)

keep it somewhere

also the old style round head is EXTREMELY nicer and has more style than the hex-head.
There is no glass lens used with it, yes, but what makes?
As long as it is in a good shape, not scratched, not melted (from having the incan been placed down standing upright and switched on)

PS: if You are planning to use the new head, IMMEDIATELY get a "bezel ring" from oveready.
Else You will find the thin lip been bent - mostly from nothing. Its a bad construction.
(I can not help repeating that, as noone else seems to mention that. And it should be mentionned on a lager scale)
