So I know that you can use the MN15 from the M3T in an M6...but can I use the regular M3 head (non-turbo) with the MN10 (or MN11) bulb on the M6? It physically fits, but looks a little bit funky. I'm thinking of putting the turbo head from the M6 over to my M3 and then using the regular M3 head on the M6.

AFAIK, which is not much to begin with, the MN10 and MN11 are exactly the same bulbs in different bases. I think I've read a guru post that. I might be wrong. So your setup should run just fine with the MN10, but not the MN11, which would be severely overdriven in two stacks of 3 inseries.

Thanks! The main reason I want to do this is because I like how floody the beam is with the M3 bezel and want the additional runtime. Then I can use either the MN15 or the Tower Module in the M3T. Time to test this out. I'll report back if anything blows up...

Edit:
Hey, it works! Awesome. I guess if the MN10 is the same bulb as the MN15, runtime and brightness should be the same as mentioned in the X-LOLA thread.

YEP, should work exactly as discussed in the X-LOLA thread. I wish more flashlights were made "stock" that look like that (body and head about the same size).

Fascinating. How's the throw compared to the M6 reflector?

The throw is probably most like the M3 with MN11...although I'm using the MN10 bulb. Very big hotspot so it has a lot of flood. It can certainly light up a whole wall inside a normal sized room. The MN10 runs brighter in the M6 than it did in the M3.

It would be interesting to see a photo of an M6 with the M3 bezel and an M6 with a KL6 side by side. Anybody have all of these parts? Size15s?

Oh, and how about an M6 with the bezel from an M3T? Oh...wait...

Tempest

I tried putting a KL6 on my M6 body a long time ago and it looks pretty much the same as the M3 head on it, except a little bit longer. The KL6 is no longer with me. Right now, I have the Tower Module for my LED option for these bad boys...until I see what Surefire has in store to replace the beloved KL6!

How about a picture of the M6 with the bezel from an M3T-CB? :naughty:

The M6 body with M3 head is very sexy. I wish SF sold one that way with MN10 for long run-time. Hey, at least we have legos :)

Yeah, it's a very cool configuration. You get the benefits of longer runtime than using the MN20, more lumen than the MN10 in the M3, and a floodier beam than the regular turbo head.

I say we call it the M6-LS from now on! What do you think???

It does look awesome but you might have to have it chromed or nickel plated to use the LS designation....:nana:

I think you're confused.

MN10 and MN15 are the same bulb different 'bases'

MN11 and MN16 are the same bulb different 'bases'

(MN15 and MN16 are TurboHead Lamp Assemblies)

I've kinda lost track of the bulbs in question with the M3 head on the M6.

The MN10 would be ultra LOLA, and the MN11 would be approximately the same lumens as the MN20 (~225ish) but with the differences resulting from the M3 reflector?

What Al is trying to say is the MN11 and MN20 are not the same bulbs. Their lumen output just happened to be around the same ballpark but they have very much different needs.
Reflector aside, M3 HOLAs (MN11-MN16) are designed with voltage sag in mind and such voltage drop is very different from 3 to 6 cells. It is truly a lamp designed to run at 4-5V, which is what it gets in an M3 when the high current drop the voltage of the 3 cells.

In short, using a M3 HOLA (MN11-MN16) in an M6 is risky because the M6's cells won't have as much of a voltage drop and your bulb might flash due to the higher voltage. So LOLA is fine, HOLA, not so much...

Now, on another subject, has anyone ever tried an MN20 in an M3? =P

You shouldn't use the MN16 in the M6.
You shouldn't use the MN11 in the M3 bezel on the M6 body.
(they have the same bulb)
