My dive buddy has two northern diver luxeon torches that i put XR'Es in with the stock reflector. They used to have lumileds 120 lumens..

How much bigger is the XPG compared to the XRE?

Ok just found an image its smaller..

XPG at max is 3.7volts 1amp? 345 lumens? how many lumens from the S2 bin?

Is this going to be a worthy upgrade?

cheers

The 345 you mention is for the R5 bin, I think there are some S-bin samples going around but no-one is selling them (or none that I could find last week)

I modded one with a Seoul P4 which was a nice conversion as the Luxeon
and the Seoul have the same beam angle and the die is in the same position, I did not fancy the beam profile with a cree and the smooth reflector.

I have a feeling that to get a good result the XP-G will have to be raised to bring the die into the reflector focus point, but I also have some slightly deeper 35mm reflectors that I will try. _ just got to be patient for the Cutter order.

I did a trial fit of a 35mm reflector and it fitted OK, just a bit longer than the original reflector.
(the torch I am talking about is the one with the red or black silicone sleeve)
If I am struggling I can try to hack something about on the lathe.
Bear in mind that the 35mm refers to the outer lip of the ring around the reflector so the biggest part of the reflector inside is only 31/32 mm or something.

The drop in you link to is direct drive and the numbers dont make sense. firstly It is strange to have a new top bin led in a drop-in with no regulation, the lumen figures quoted have no relation to any R5 bin specs I have seen, probably just lazy website updating.

I have just remembered that the torch contains its own driver as part of the switch so actually a direct drive drop-in is not such a bad Idea. but it is still about 10mm too small to properly fit.

Yep thats the same torch.. I also have a red one that i demolished..
I found that the switch was a pain in the *** as its spring loaded. putting a new driver in there doesnt work with the switch.
Yeah i noticed that the specs on the website were wrong... Keep me posted if you manage to squeeze a R5 in there with reflector or even an optic
:)
