Just like the title says, I'm interested in putting a different LED into the stock lamp module but searching and looking at the module, I don't know how to take it apart. If I want to just swap emitters with a R5, I think I have to just take off the reflector somehow without destroying the whole thing to access the emitter.

Any ideas are much appreciated.

EDIT

Finished.

I decided to use a 3000k P4 LED from here: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Seoul-Semiconductor/N42180L-S2/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtEjy7lsqBi5VINFGkgtf1lAQhrqpKXCkg%3d

At the last minute I decided to use a different driver, a two mode 1A max 7135 driver. I had to modify the white plastic part to fit the circular driver as the stock one is more of a rectangle shape.

I used Arctic Alumina to put the pieces back together

Some hi/low beam shots-my very first attempt. The light is actually a bit brighter than the pics show.

I'm very satisfied with the beam and the tint. It's not the brightest, but it will be a very useful light for inspecting stuff.

Right now I'm using 1 rcr123 with a spacer. Not sure if a 17mm battery with fit inside a g2. My calipers say it won't in just a section of the radius when rotating the calipers around the inside diameter. That is, most of the radius is a smidge above 17mm except for a small arc of the radius which is a smidge under 17mm.

I guess my searchfoo is weak.

Thanks Justin Case very helpful. My wife just got an Nikon D90 so I'm sure can take some good pics:twothumbs. No to decide which emitter to put in it.

Justin Case,

I have it apart. Here are some pics.

What I think is the IC controller has no markings on it. I'll have this opened up until the LED arrives in the mail. Please let me know if you want a different angle or just a better pic and I'll do my best to give you the information your after.

Re: taking apart a G2 led lamp module

Does the 10-pin IC near the inductor labeled "220" have any markings on it? What I assume is the LED- wire blocks a good view of that chip, plus it's a bit blurry. On the same side of the board, there is 6-pin chip in the lower right corner. Any markings? On the other side, any markings on the big 8-pin chip? Thanks.

Re: taking apart a G2 led lamp module

I've retaken the pictures with manual focus and higher resolution. The 10 pin chip with the wire blocking it does not have any markings on either side. No markings on the six or eight pin chip as well. The wire blocking the ten pin chip is actually the battery positive connection.
