Am heading up to the cabin tomorrow and taking these two wth me to hunt with. The SP101 will be used for CCW carry, and the Redhawk will be my hunting firearm carried in a chest holster. Might even need my hands free for the snowshoe poles as I have been told they have almost a foot of snow already to wade through to get to my fav spot in the swamp, lol.

What are you hunting and what load are you using? I roll my own 44 mag loads and my fave is 21 grains of AA#9 pushing a 240 grainer to just over 1,500 FPS out of my 6.5" S&W 29. I don't hunt but I do enjoy handloading and hotrodding 44 Special and 44 Magnum.

I've also found AA#9 to be a great powder for the .44mag behind heavier bullets. One of my favorite powders for .38 Super Major was 12.7 grains of AA#7. Both powders are more erosive than other choices but unless you're talking about 30,000+ rounds it's not really a factor.

Yes AA#9 meters well and is very versatile. I also use it for 10mm.

ah yes! I forgot that I'm using it for 10mm also. Plus it just smells so darn good when it burns...lol. I think they almost smell sweet, especially AA#7.

I forgot to ask... Did you harvest anything while up hunting? Sound's like it was a handgun specific hunt possibly?

Sorry missed your post, this past years hunting I was experimenting with Buffalo Bore loadings. The 340 grain +P+ is extremely impressive and a whitetail buck went down like it was poleaxed . I will have to look at my charts at my brother in laws place where we keep our shared reloading equipment for our most recent loads.

I was hunting whitetail deer in a swamp in northern Michigan.

Oooh my poor Smith...

Buffalo Bore ammo is remarkably consistent (at least through my chronograph)
