If I have understood correctly the amount of lux at 1 meter distance is the same as Candela. The same thing goes for footcandle. The amount of footcandles at 1 foot distance is the same as Candela.

If the lightmeter is more than 1 meter/foot away you must set up a formula. It's not difficult. Let's say the distance between your flashlight and the lightmeter is 10 feet and the lightmeter gives a result of 2 footcandles:
Distance x Distance x footcandle
10x10x2 = 200 Candela

Brightnorm...how does brightness with Lithiums compare to alks for the first hour or so?

Geoff,

The best way to test that is to have 2 mini Q40's (which I have) with 2 identical lamps (which don't exist), So I'll have to go by memory. Ironically, I was so focussed on runtime that I really can't answer your very legitimate and logical question. Actually. I'm a bit embarassed!

Thanks for waking me Geoff,

Crazy schedule doesn't permit tests right now, but I did do a quick comparison between Mini Q40 with 4 Ray-O-Vac Max. and one with 4 Energizer lith. The one with lithiums is whiter and brighter (only ran them about 5 min)
