Ok, I got a couple of Tec40's cheap recently, and I want to upgrade the bulb as I want to take advantage of the Eneloop AAs I'm using in them. I've been using Mag 4 cell bulbs, which are dependable with decent brightness, color and beam, way better than the stockers.

So, on to the next level. I've read many threads about these two bulbs, and would like to know how they compare in beam quality, color and brightness. Also, lifespan and the ability to stand up to 4 nimh cells off the charger.

So far, what I've gleaned is that the XPR103 is whiter, as bright as the KPR139 and has a better beam due to a smaller filament without a filament lead extending to the bulb tip as in the KPR139. Is this correct? Anyone have both?? What about the lifespan?

And, the big question: where to buy them? Can't find them at Walmart, HD, etc. Online seems difficult, too.

I've used both but I like the whiteness of the XPRs. I've got about 4 hrs on both of mine and have not blown one yet. I've used both rechargeables and alks with no problem. Radioshack sells the XPRs. The glass on the bulbs will vary from unit to unit so some will have a great beam and some won't. You may be able to find a good bulb at your local hardware store if you no the specs. The XPR is rated at 3.6 volts with a current of 800ma.

Radio Shack has supposedly discontinued the XPR 103, so you may have to do some digging. There are a few left out there, so buy 'em up.

Darn, xpr103's from RS were good bulbs at $1.29 or so each. You can always get reflectalite bulbs but at around $8 apiece it gets pretty steep for this type of light. Two or three bulbs like that and you may as well have gotten an LED light.

The Dorcy version of this bulb is available from Sears .com . It may be available in the stores. Sears item #03493864000 Tools>electrical shop>flashlights & lanterns.

Hope this helps

i've been running mag 3 cell for a while now with no problems.

You can run a Krypton 3 D Mag bulb just fine. I would wager to bet that a Xenon (Magnum star) 3D Mag bulb wouldn't last too long, if not at all. I could be wrong though.
